We stopped moving and turned to face the sound and movement, watching to see what it was. We both stood there silent while listening to what sounded like a large cat eating a bone. What the hell was he doing outside of the territory and where was Ember? I scanned the area trying to find her but didn’t see her out there with him. Realization hit me too late that the panther was black and not gray. This wasn’t Bastet at all, it was someone else and we were standing right in a trap.
