“Joe, we need to do something.” Maria was on the couch with Lee’s head on her lap. They immediately left for Florida after Sabrina’s attack. Ash had spent days watching Lee hoping she would wake up but scared she wouldn’t. When he couldn’t take it anymore he drowned himself in liquor and left Maria and Ann to look after her. “I don’t know what to do.” He crouched down by the couch next to Maria. He wanted to touch her but she was still jumpy. They hadn’t told them what they really were, but Maria had some idea with an image to back it up and she was scared.

She asked him. “No,” he dropped his eyes back to the notepad. “But I don’t like boyfriend,” it was muttered. “De facto?” She suggested. He grimaced. “So hippy.” She sighed out a breath and turned back to her page. “Fated mate?” “What the f–k is a fated mate?” He demanded. “What are we, dogs?” “It is a term they use in certain romance genres to describe a relationship between two people where destiny draws them irresistibly together.”

"And what is that exactly?" Brodi drew in a deep breath for strength and sat back down. "A fated mate is the only true mate a shifter will ever have. They may have other relationships, but they will not be anything compared to the depth of connection fated mates will have. There is no guessing if someone is your mate or not. You know immediately."

It was nobody’s business. “What is confusing is that nobody has experienced the pull of the fated mate bond in over 20 years, since the onset of the Fated Plague. There have been no documented mate bonds other than chosen bonds.” Dr. Richard said, pulling me from my thoughts. “Daya… we need you to be honest. Do you have a fated mate?” He asked plainly. Can I lie? Clearly, my fated mate is around this pack and doesn’t care about me. He never tried to find me and now he is having sex with other women to torture me.

In pure shock. "What?" I spit out. Liam looks confused for a second, then he understands that was news to me, "What the fuck are you talking about?" "Oh. Uhm, Theo... and Nukea, the ginger omega... they're fated mates," he says, turning my world upside down and filling me with a blinding rage I haven't felt in a while.

"The Wolf Clan only has one life mate, we would be absolutely faithful to our mates." Lyra said: "Then... we humans have true love too you know, although not like you guys who only have one mate for life. Maybe that couple just now could grow old hand in hand." She returned his gaze steadily, her long curly lashes fluttered lightly: "You're just too prejudiced. There is this wondrous thing called destiny. I won't deny we pure humans can't compare with your absolute loyalty when it comes to mates. But as long as we meet the right one, we can also love each other for life."

“Why do I get the feeling that you hate me even more than Priest does?” Shaking his head, he scoffs and pulls my arm out of his grip. “I met my Fated fifteen years ago right here in Vegas in the middle of a suburb,” he starts. “She was beautiful; hair the color of honey, eyes bluer than a cloudless day, and a temperament that could cause even Gabe to calm down.” I frown. “What does this have to do with me? What is a Fated?” He turns around to face me and places the tray on the nightstand. “Ever heard of something called a ‘mate’ amongst werewolves?” I nod. “Well, we vampires have something called a Fated, and only vampires 200 years and older get to meet theirs.”

“This mate was gifted to us by the moon goddess herself. These types of mates are rare amongst my kind now due to leadership in the supernatural realm.” “It is said that fated mates have a powerful bond that can not be broken or rejected. They are two halves of the same soul." he said, his eyes burring into me sending a shiver down my spine. "Fated mates are mates that are bound to each other mind, body and soul, never to be split apart. If we marked each other,” he said, his eyes still red placing me in a hold. He kissed my hand again.

I interjected to hide the truth that I was pissed off at the fact he had come up with a way through all this crap, with something so simple nonetheless. "It's not simple." He announced, making me still at the cold reminder he could read my thoughts. Pursing my lips I motioned for him to continue. "You see, the idea of a fated mate bond is that it is in place until death or rejection... and once you have rejected them, a new mate will be generated. And I have a feeling after the way your mates insulted the moon goddess, that mate would be on the sidelines waiting to take her place as their mate and Luna or... well you get the gist of what I am saying."

The current Alpha and former Alphas were very out-dated with their views surrounding women and mates too. Fated mates are the mate you are meant to wait for, the mate that our own moon goddess has selected for you, the one that is perfect for you. Yet our Alpha prefers to keep all pack members within the pack and not allow members to leave, even when meeting fated mates, so in order to maintain this, fated mates are almost unheard of in our pack, and most are chosen mates or even arranged marriages set up by our very own Alpha or the parents within pack.
