My injuries got the best of me, and my frail body eventually returned as i morphed back to my naked human self. "Heh?" I heard, unable to see the details of the faces that peered over me. "What's a woman like her doing in a place like—" "Wait" one tilted his head. "Do you hear that?" He bent forward. "She's pregnant." "Ewwww. Now she's worth even less. Why don't we just have our way with—" "Watch your mouth boys. She's a princess" A different voice echoed up. This one was deeper, and way more chilling. It was the same voice that had given the order to hunt and kill.

The hall glittered with gold and glass, every detail screaming of status and power. Because tonight was not just my birthday— it was my engagement banquet with Caleb, the future Alpha. Yet the man who had promised me a “birthday gift”… never appeared. I stood at the edge of the hall, eyes locked on the doorway, waiting. Seven years of waiting. Seven years since my wolf had whispered the truth to me—that Caleb was my fated mate. I believed it. So much that I gave up everything. The three hundred million dollars my father left me—I poured it all into Caleb’s pack. Into his future. Into us.

Their expressions all looked tense, with frowns furrowed and hardened jaws. "We need to start preparing because a major war seems inevitable," Father said. "Several kingdoms are experiencing crises simultaneously. The Eastern Kingdom is experiencing the massive civil war their land has ever seen. "The Southern Kingdom lost their next leader, who had been betrothed to the strongest Alpha in their kingdom. The man accused the King of doing it on purpose and threatened to remove him from his throne. The Western Kingdom is facing serious internal problems within its palace. I believe this is happening under the influence of outsiders," Father explained.

Every vampire born or turned had to be registered under the council, a body of five special vampires who ruled over every vampire in the country. Each member known as an elder. We all had to answer to them but I answered to no one. I was the girl whose birth was unscented, undisclosed. I had never met my mother, so I had no knowledge about authority as it went until I was nineteen. I had gone on a raid with a few of my friends as usual like the scavengers we were but I got caught by a protector. Being dragged like an animal to the council when my name wasn't found in the registry was one of the worst days of my life, the humiliation was real and I had swore to never relent to them. I declared without giving it a second thought. “Then, kill them.” She commanded, and the wind stopped immediately. A sword glided through the air and fell onto the ground near me, I tried stepping away from it, but I couldn't. It was known as the garden of promise for a reason, and I was powerless against its forces. Since I wouldn't be free until I fulfilled my vow, I clutched the sword. “I'm sorry,” I muttered as I stepped towards Elena. “Break out of the goddamn spell. You are about to make the greatest mistake in your life." Ellen shouted. I couldn't help it. I had promised, and I must fulfil it.

Sam was sitting on the fountain, tired of her mom bossing her around like she had to set the right example for the pack as the next heir. She found a rock and threw it hard without paying attention to where she threw it. Thomas was walking away from the coven he grew up in; he did not want anything to do with this life anymore and lived on his own. Kim was the only vampire he wanted and now she is dead and he was being forced to marry the daughter of the coven leader his family was at war with to create a peace treaty.

He only had daughters to pass his throne too, the older two had married commoners leaving the throne to his youngest as he would never allow a commoner to sit on the throne. "There is the matter of breaking your betrothal", Fredrick's voice broke through my thoughts. "You have found your Fated mate, by the laws of all the kingdoms you no longer have to hold up your end. I am not certain how the Princess and her mother are going to take that news though."

This obviously was not the outcome he was hoping for. “El, I strongly urge you to reconsider.” He says gently like he was speaking to a child. “On this matter, the decision is mine, and mine alone.” I say firmly, leaving no room for arguments. “I’ll confirm he’s my father and he can do the transition ceremony.” “And if he threatens to kill you?” Gabriel interjects. “He won’t have a reason to. I pose no threat to him since I don’t want to be Queen. We can both go our separate ways.”

And I did it and I would do it again if it meant that I got to stay on the throne. Reaching under my bed I pull the book from between the mattress and the frame. I don't need to flip through the pages to find my prophecy. As if the book has a mind of its own it flips open and lands on my prophecy. The page glows under my hands as I trace the symbols with the tips of my fingers. An imposter shall sit upon the throne. He shall cast his mate and his family aside while searching for the one true Queen. Alone and desperate the imposter King will die with no one there at his side. Only the true love of a white wolf can save him from his fate.

Who steps onto a podium, my mom beside him. “Thank you all for coming on such short notice,” he spoke into a microphone. “As many of you know, years ago, during the witch wars many years ago, our daughter disappeared. What you don’t know is that we were advised to do this to protect her.” Mom took hold of Dad’s hand. “When Aurora vanished. The danger also went away because she was the one Millicent was after.” I gasped at hearing this. I was just a baby. “We have been your Wolf King and Witch Queen for many peaceful years, and I believe we have served you faithfully. But now the threat has been eliminated, and our daughter can finally return home.” He kisses Mom’s hand and looks at me, smili
