The metallic click of the door handle yanked me from my thoughts. Two figures entered — detectives. Human, of course. The first was a tall, lean man with close-cropped hair the colour of iron and sharp, assessing eyes. He carried himself like a soldier who’d seen too much — all control and no softness. His badge glinted faintly under the sterile lights. The woman beside him was different. She was younger, maybe mid-thirties, with dark curls tied neatly back and a steady, unreadable expression. But her eyes… they were too knowing. She had the kind of gaze that could peel you open if you weren’t careful.

She knew the answer to her question, she just wanted to be sure. "Asriel Parker. Even in the last five cases." Owen answered. "Darral and Andrew left to interview him since he is our only lead currently." Selena yawned and stretched herself. The analogue wall clock read that it was already six AM. She had slept at midnight filling in paperwork for the last case she had solved and was woken up at two AM. Her frown was a clear indication that she was rethinking just how joyful being a murder detective was. With cases like those, she was surprised that she hadn't lost her mind yet.

I'm trying to make a point that I can do whatever the other officers do. Being a woman doesn't make me any less of a professional detective, after all.
