I blinked, stumbling after him, until he veered toward the far corner where the fence had bowed inward, half-crushed by years of neglect. He dropped to his knees, wrenching the bottom loose with both hands. Metal screamed, dirt crumbled, and suddenly there was a gap, jagged but wide enough.
“Go, Grace. Crawl.”
My chest squeezed. “What about you?”
“I’m right behind you. Go!”
I shoved Nova through first, her cries muffled against my chest, then squeezed in after, the metal biting into my arms and tearing my sweatshirt. Noah crawled through last, his back scraping hard against the fence.
