I declined into the chair, my eyes scanning the room. Ella did the last button of Ivy's pajamas and smiled at me. I flashed a signal to Ella to help me out and she laughed, her fingers pointing to a nearby shelf in the room where all of Ivy's bedtime stories were arranged. I walked over to the shelf and picked a book barely glancing over to see it's contents. I sat back into my chair and was about reading when I skimmed it through the first chapter. The story was about a frog who dared to dream, going on an whimsical adventures. “I'm going to be telling you the story of the frog who dared to dream that he could change the frogville.”

Hadwin said naming the story that changed my life forever due to the King, but Darren only shakes his head in response. “No, it’s a book called The Gruesome Tales, it’s a bunch of gruesome stories comprised into one book. It’s there a story of these flesh eaters live. It’s said there is only one person that can save us all from these creatures, this person is a werewolf like us but was born with amazing powers. It’s said she will go to battle to defeat these creatures and save everyone.” He smiled retelling the story he had read, but for me, this only resembled a nightmare, it was explaining my life.

But a creature blocked our path. It was a hideous thing that looked like it belonged in a swamp. It had one eye and a huge mouth. It was taller than me, with long arms that touched the ground. It growled as we approached it. “You won’t be able to escape me so easily this time,” Millicent sneered. Aunt Jo took a step forward. She is going to force her way past the creature. I tugged on her hand. “There’s another way out,” I whispered, grabbing hold of her hand.

I really wanted to meet his sister. “I found a new book for you,” Nicolais interrupted. My gaze shifted to him, and I saw a new expression—one I hadn’t seen before. Jealousy. She pointed with her finger and ran it down these books looking for a particular cover. “I have been saving this story for the right moment.” She directed her son to sit in the chair and when he sat down, she gave him the book. It looked ordinary to him, but it was obviously special to her. “This is the story of a young man who found a friend while on a journey. It is called ‘The Tale of Meru’.” He looked surprised because he was half expecting another history lesson. “Are you sure you have the right book?” “Yes, Yvayn, I am. I am not as boring as you would like to think I am.”

I wandered through the aisles, running my fingers along the spines, feeling a sense of belonging I hadn't felt in a long time. I spent the whole day there, completely lost among the books, reading story after story until I lost track of time. One book caught my attention "The Adventures of Sir Flufftail" a ridiculous but absolutely hilarious story about a brave and very dramatic rabbit knight who went on quests to save stolen carrot cakes from mischievous squirrels.

I can tell Uncle Leo we aren't ready yet. 'I'm sure. I don't think it will help us, but it won't hurt either.' She said. I picked up the book. It was an old, deep brown, leatherbound book with the title in gold leaf. 'Tales of Olde'. It was heavier than I expected. Uncle Leo hadn't told me the title of the story so I skimmed the contents page. None of the titles mentioned an unnamed wolf. I sighed.

Flipping the page over, I read a few more lines. The book was quite intriguing. But after a few pages, it was slipping out of reality and going through some non realistic stories. By the time I read my third fairytale story about a fairly young woman getting lost at sea and ended up falling in live with a beast that lived beyond the lands of the five Kingdoms, I softly closed the book and let out a sigh. "That was fun." Prince Victor sarcastically commented before lifting his arms over his head and letting out a loud yawn.

After two days of high temperatures and intense boredom, he remembered the three books. Sam pulled out the one with the Mummy on the cover, because it looked the most innocuous. It was entitled the Ninth Pan Book of Horror Stories. He wasn’t the least bit prepared for what he found inside. The first three stories involved emasculation, murder and burning at the stake. In his fevered state Sam felt he was not only watching the characters’ suffering, he was experiencing it along with them. He flung the book at the wall and then hid it again, wishing he could burn it like Jinnot, the young girl in the third story who was burned alive.
