I didn’t hesitate. I pulled Fifty Shades of Grey first (cliché, yes, but I needed an entry point), then The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty by Anne Rice, Story of O, a slim volume called The New Topping Book just to balance it out, and two anthologies with titles like Bound Hearts and Surrender to Me. The stack felt heavy in my arms, like contraband. I carried them to the my corner and hid them under the table. I sat down, and opened the first book.

“Wait here, I’m going to give you something that will help you relax.” Before I could make a protest, she was gone out of my sight. Girl number eleven was now too close to Ace, as if she wanted to sit on her lap. She kept nudging for his biceps, rubbing her arms against Ace’s from time to time. Ace seemed to be oblivious of the lustful stares he was getting from the girls flocking around him. “Got it” Karen came back catching he breathe with three books in her hands. “Here.” “What am I going to do with these?” grabbing the offered books to me, the book on top was entitled ‘Fifty Shades of Grey.’

He watched her closely, the tension, the fear, the flicker of something dangerous and new. “You don’t need to be afraid,” he whispered. “I won’t hurt you.” The blush deepened. That was when he knew. Not total control, but enough. Enough to unsettle the house. Enough to create whispers and fracture trust. He leaned in, brushing her lips briefly with his own, just enough to shock, then pulled away. Her breath hitched, body rigid.

Yellow tapes surrounding the area and flashing lights. I saw Alejandro standing just beyond the threshold in a black robe, face carved from stone, clearly trying to suppress the rage bubbling beneath his flawless exterior. I couldn’t look away. I wanted to see every twitch, every tightened jaw muscle, every ounce of disbelief when he realized the girl he thought he’d burned alive was the ghost now haunting his empire. “That’s right,” I whispered under my breath. “This is just the beginning.” Shane slid behind me on the bed, wrapping an arm around my waist, his lips ghosting over the shell of my ear.
