He stomped again, the destructive power of his foot sending a blinding explosion of pain through Kai's arm. Follard's shoe was once again raised for the boon shot. "Daddy," Kai panted and grabbed Follard by the ankle, pulling hard. With a shrill scream, Follard tumbled off the beams, his body falling over two floors and landing with fatal force. Kai didn't dare look down. He focused his whole mind on climbing the beam. Unfortunately, his strength was drained, and his left hand was crippled. Writhing like a worm caught in a hook, he leaned forward helplessly from the fatal fall.

The stone floor loomed closer, an unforgiving surface that promised nothing but pain. As she fell, Hara’s mind raced with a frantic clarity, each moment stretching into an agonizing eternity. Her legs, weakened by shock and fear, gave way entirely, and she was propelled backward through the chilling air. The fall seemed endless, a nightmarish journey that culminated in a bone-shattering impact. The collision with the floor was brutal and immediate. Hara’s body hit the stone with a jarring force that sent a violent tremor through her entire frame. The sickening crack of her head striking the ground reverberated through the cold night, leaving her dazed and disoriented.

Her grit and determination are sexy as hell. Fallon reaches the platform, grabbing ahold of one of the boards to swing herself up. As she does, one of the recruits that was tailing her closes in and snatches her other patch off of her shoulder just as she swings onto the platform. It should be game over, but either she doesn’t know that her patch was taken or she just doesn’t care. Once on the platform, she lands a couple of good jabs on Brennan, one of the gold team recruits guarding the flag. As he staggers back and falls, she wheels to Summer, the other flag guard, and knees her in the stomach so hard that it knocks the wind out of the poor girl.

Each step felt like they were bearing an immense, crushing weight. “Ugh!” “Cough…” Two ninth grade fighters instantly coughed up blood and were sent flying out of the pathway, just like Timothy. The ninth grade fighters could only take one step at most. The two people could not get up at all after they fell down outside the pathway. One of them was still breathing, but the other was not. He was dead. Timothy was lucky. He had been injured when he had attempted the challenge stubbornly. The two people had fared worse than him.

Vanessa leaned closer. “You don’t belong here.” Nova smiled. “Funny.” She shoved Vanessa away. “That’s exactly what you told me before.” Vanessa charged again. Nova waited. At the last second, she moved aside. Vanessa missed. Nova grabbed her from behind and threw her across the ground. Vanessa rolled and immediately got back up. “You’re stronger than you look.” Nova wiped blood from the corner of her mouth. “So are you.” Vanessa snarled. “Then let’s see which one of us walks away.”

A mistake in the underlying code had triggered a crash in the chain system. The engineers were already overwhelmed. When they saw me walk in, their eyes held a mix of expectation and embarrassment. I didn’t respond to any of it. I sat down and connected to the system. Memories of every system upgrade and custom request Apex had gone through, buried deep in my mind, surged forward instantly. An hour later, the alarms stopped, and the data was restored. Mr. Johnson’s call came directly to my phone. “Lily, thank you! I knew you’d handle it!”

"You’ll see what I do to you!" She lunges again, her movements erratic and uncoordinated. This time, she overextends, her anger blinding her to the reality of the situation. Her fist cuts through the air wildly, and in her fury, she loses her balance. With a sharp intake of breath, she stumbles forward, her momentum carrying her past me. She falls flat on her face, the impact echoing through the now silent gallery.

“Now you’ve fallen—you’ve lost everything you were meant to be—just because of me!” He pulled back just enough to look me in the eyes, his gaze full of love and quiet certainty. “Haven’t I fallen hard enough? Long before I lost my wings… I had already fallen completely for you. And that fall was far deeper, far more real, and far more permanent than anything else I could ever experience.”

The people in it were clearly Josh and Whitney. Whitney wiped her tears, confidence returning to her face. "Josh, if you take one more step, I'll send this to Yvette. Tell me, after she finds out about your little stand-in game, do you think she'll still stay with you?" Josh staggered back, disbelief written all over his face, veins standing out along his neck. He lunged for her phone, but stumbled and fell hard onto the sand. The others, sensing things were going wrong, rushed to persuade him.

"Quit yel—" The rest of the words get stuck in his throat as I land a punch on his face. I hear Renata's scream in the background but I ignore it as I send another punch to his face. I give him a series of successive punches, not giving him even a second to recover in between the blows. I continue until I see blood. I'm not sure if it's from my knuckles or his face but I continue even as a searing pain tears my hand. All this while, he has tried to rebuff my assault and has failed miserably, only managing to land a successful uppercut before I disable his hands.
