I see a flash pass through his eyes, and he begins to laugh softly.
"We have children," he says suddenly.
I frown, not understanding what he is getting at.
"We had children, Elio."
He steps back to lean comfortably in the leather chair.
"No. We have two children."
I suddenly understand what he means and look at him in horror. I quickly shake my head.
"No. Do not say their names, Elio."
"Leo and Laura," he clarifies immediately.
"They are not our children, Elio."
"Ah. I think they are. It is my children's organs that keep them alive. My children. They are ours," he says, pulling out his electronic tablet again.
