**Chapter Fifty-Three** Fire did not feel the same anymore. It wasn’t just heat. It wasn’t just power. It was memory. Rose didn’t fall through it this time. She *moved* through it. Like it recognized her. Like it was guiding her somewhere she had always been meant to return. The flames curled around her—not burning, not consuming—but *revealing*. And within them— She began to see. Not just fragments. Not just flashes. But something whole.

Stripes. Burning across my body like fire. The air itself seemed to change. The wolves hesitated. Just for a second. That was their mistake. I moved. Faster than before. Stronger. Unstoppable. I tore through them. No hesitation now. No strategy. Just dominance. One after another. They fell. Until only one remained. Celdor stepped forward. Finally. I tilted my head slightly, blood dripping from my jaw. “You should have stayed hidden.” He didn’t respond.

A chill ran through me as I stared at him in disbelief. Seeing the terror in my eyes, Tucker curled his lips into a knowing smile. Panic took over me, every fiber of my being screaming to push him away and run. But my body refused to cooperate. The fire inside me had barely dimmed, leaving my body limp and unresponsive. I grabbed his tie, my attention drawn to the flush creeping over his ears. "Can you take me home?" I asked. Reading my unspoken request, Tucker quietly began to remove my clothes. "Tucker… No…"

Finally, Serena whispered, more to herself than to him, “Maybe I’m waiting to see how far the fire will spread.” Damien’s lips curved into something that wasn’t quite a smile, but wasn’t entirely without softness. “Then you’d better be ready, Serena. Because the flames are only just beginning.” --- The rest of the night unfolded like smoke — slow, suffocating, and impossible to ignore. Serena spent the hours pacing her penthouse, her thoughts a storm she couldn’t silence. Damien had left, but his presence lingered, etched into every corner of the space.

His hands steadied me, his voice cut through the fog of exhaustion. “Again,” he would command. And I would obey, teeth gritted, sweat dripping down my spine. By the third day, something shifted. My steps grew surer. My strikes carried weight. I felt the fire inside me not as destruction but as fuel. It terrified me how natural it felt, as though the power had only been waiting for me to claim it. Still, the fortress remained uneasy. The whispers of betrayal had not died. And sometimes, when I caught Lucian staring into the distance, his jaw set, I knew he was carrying burdens he wasn’t sharing.

“Tell me who I am! Tell me why this is happening to me!” My throat worked soundlessly. The words were there, but they were too heavy, too damning. If I said them, there would be no going back. Instead of answering, I reached for her hands, needing to ground her, to ground myself. But the moment my skin brushed hers, a searing heat surged between us. She gasped, yanking her hands back, but it was too late. Flames erupted from her fingertips, small at first, then roaring to life with a sudden ferocity that lit the entire room. The fire coiled around her hands like living serpents, twisting and snapping with wild energy.

Chapter 13 Set Fire and Burn by Ruth Nalio Angelica… Darkness surrounded me and the screaming of the wind filled my ears. The ground shook beneath my feet, cracking with each step I took. My flaming fingertips trailed along the walls of the building next to me, catching it on fire with ease. Inside, I was filled with more pain and anger than humanly possible. Terror woke me from my nightmare, and I sat up screaming. Looking down at myself, I jumped out of the bed as I realized I was on fire. “Fuck! No!” I shook my hands, as if I could shake out the fire.

“I don’t know how, but it’s back.” “Use it,” he urged, his voice filled with a renewed sense of hope. “You can turn the tide with it.” With a deep breath, I focused on the flames, letting them grow, feeling the power surge through me. I threw my hands out, and fire shot forward, consuming the enemies in its path. It was a beautiful and terrifying sight, the flames licking at the night sky, painting the battlefield in shades of orange and red.

The rogue supernatural’s left a while ago, and the only sound left in the forest is the wind howling in the tree. It’s going to be a cold night, and we are going to have to find a place to bed down in for the night before the impending storm gets any worse.
