But when I see the title of the first book on top, I gasp and rush towards it. Absent-mindedly, I sit on the chair and bring it closer to the desk. My hands shake. Why do they shake? I pick the book which makes a bubble of emotions burst in me. "Gone with the wind." by Margaret Mitchell stares right back at me in its red hardcover beauty. My fingers trail each letter of the title as I stare in amazement. I open the book and a note falls from it to the table.

From the corner of my eye, I could see several golden bright glows appeared in the sky, and some were heading straight at us with incredible speed. Fuck. They were fireballs scattered in the sky. The clouds turned to grey smoke, and I could see flashes of red thunder hidden behind them. I moved away, towards the trees, trying to shield myself from whatever was going to unfold. Just as soon as I had left my position, a fireball from the sky hit the ground in a blast of smoke, and I screamed. I was so close to getting burnt up. I didn't even have the opportunity to think too much. Another fireball aimed for me hit the tree I stood behind, and it began to fall. My screams tore through my lips, as I began to run around the trees. More fireballs began to rain all around, and try as I might, my screams didn't help.

FLAMES devoured the world. No—it devoured me. The heat bit at my skin, burned my lungs, and made my very bones ache as though they had been wrapped in molten rock. Smoke curled thick in the air, choking my breath, and above me, the heavens wept. Rain fell in great torrents, drowning the earth in sorrow. Yet the fire did not die.

I am unable to look away, although I really don’t want to see what happens either. Her nostrils flare, and an inferno of red fire shoots out of her mouth. A blood curdling scream erupts from my father upon impact, causing a shiver to run down my body. Our father was many things – but he was no pussy. For him to be screaming like that, it must be absolutely excruciating.

“Claim it. Claim us. And make the world kneel.” The hybrid’s eyes—violet and silver flames—bored into hers, waiting. Above them, the sky ruptured fully, silver fire cascading in rivers, devouring the forest, the battlefield, the stars themselves. Serena threw back her head and screamed, the sound breaking across the world like shattered glass. She made her choice. But as the fire swallowed the clearing whole, no one saw what it was.

Flames poured from my mouth. Like an inferno unleashed. The thing shrieked, its cries splitting the night as it twisted and writhed. The fire consumed it without mercy, without pause, burning so hot the air itself shimmered. I looked to the sky and as if the gods themselves had struck judgment...

The warmth from the fire warmed my face and my insides, I don’t know what it was, but I felt this huge weight lifting off my shoulder. The fire arrived right where I needed it, and Ava’s lungs opened up in loud screams as the fire baptized her in all its glory. I fuckin’ smiled.
