One man stood before the stove, and it was smoking like it was nobody’s business. “If you carry on like this, we’ll have to ring the bell and dispatch the truck to put out our own fires,” Mike joked, and all the men stood up. The one cooking, Sam, turned around with red eyes from the smoke. “This is Ben Atwood. He’s joining the team. The cook is Sam Vaughan.” “You mean the arsonist,” one of the men piped up. “Next time, you cook,” Sam said. “Please, I’d love to.”

"Are you the one who killed Ralph and Ms. Franz?" Sam shook his head vigorously. "No! It wasn't me!" "When I find out who pulled the trigger on Ralph, I'll kill him myself!" Arnold growled. "Are you the one who killed Ralph?" "No, no!" Sam shouted. "It wasn't me! I swear!" As much as he was groveling, it made Grayson ashamed that the man had been in his employ, especially as a guard for the Crown. "Who killed him?" Arnold demanded. Sam's eyes darted toward Grayson.

Arrow quickly removed all her ties then carried her in his arms. Samantha was shot close to her heart. Arrow was fucking nervous at that time, her woman might die due to loss of blood.

Sam's hand gripped my throat against the tree, and I slowly glanced up to see the skull mask staring back at me. I commanded fire to rise to my fingers, to make contact with was beneath my skin. I willed the bark to ignite. Sam slammed into me again, and my fingers trembled from the delicious assault. "Come on, my little firebreather." Sam whispered in my face, his movements anything but gentle. "Show me what you got." The tree erupted in flames like a match. Sam yanked me from the tree and threw me on the muddy forest floor the moment flames licked my skin. Without looking back, he froze the entire tree. The ice melted instantly, leaving the tree unscathed.

“So I’m supposed to just… trust you completely.” “Yes.” Sammy rolled his shoulders like he was about to jump into cold water. Then he stepped forward again. This time, he didn’t look at the flame. He looked at Victor. And he placed his hand directly into the fire. I held my breath. A second passed. Then two. No scream. No hiss. The flames moved around his fingers like they recognized him. Sammy blinked. He moved his hand slightly, testing it. Nothing. “It’s not burning,” he said, sounding almost confused.

I catch myself with my bad wrist, and pain shoots up my arm. “Shit, Quinn,” Sam says, dropping his gym bag and going in after the guy who was pounding on the door. “Archer,” he calls. “Are you here?” Sam helps me to my feet and rounds on the guy, shoving him against the wall. “What the fuck are you doing?” “Where’s Archer?” “I’m not telling you shit.”

“Apparently, I’m the longest PA he had. Silly as it may seem, even by hurrying around to the passenger side to open the truck door for me.
