She felt as if she were outside of herself, looking down, and she became more and more confused. She read. And read. And read. Finally, it hit her like a lightning bolt: this book, it was hers. Her journal. The journal of a teenage girl. A story of coming of age. Of going back in time. Of falling in love with a man named Caleb. Of having a daughter named Scarlet. Of becoming a vampire. She wondered if she were losing her mind. Was this some sort of practical joke? Some sort of fantasy she’d had as a young girl? What was it doing here? How did her grandmother have it? And why was she only drawn to open it now, at this time?

My heart skips. “Okay,” I whisper. “That’s new..” The first few pages are written in a script that looks ancient but sharp, the ink dark and fresh as if it was written yesterday. The words don’t blur or shift this time. They sit still, waiting. I swallow and start reading. At first, it’s history. Bloodlines. Old packs. Coven wars. Vampires and wolves tearing each other apart and then pretending they didn’t. The usual paranormal drama. I almost relax.

I lifted my backpack and shouldered it. "We could go over to my house and watch TV. I have all the seasons of The Vampire Diaries." Abby clutched her book to her chest. "The what?" She wanted to watch a show about vampires. Had she guessed what I was? My heart beat wildly. Abby dropped her backpack on the table. "Please tell me you've heard of The Vampire Diaries. I know it's kind of old school, but it's seriously so good." I got the feeling saying no would be social suicide. "I mean I've heard of it. Of course. But I've never watched it."

Something she could only imagine existed in books and movies. A pair of red eyes and two long fangs that stuck out of the mouth as though they were always meant to be there. Except there was no blood dripping from his mouth as always described in books. Yet, she was still scared senseless at the sight of a living, vampire right in front of her eyes. He moved closer to her again but this time, she was prepared and understood what he was. She lunged on her feet in fright and prepared to flee. But she had barely moved two steps when that figure appeared in front of her again.

“That's weird, I bet Ethan is hiding something.” It was already night, I was engrossed in the book I found. It wasn't giving me any solution but it had these vampire stories in them. Their do’s and don't, heroes and heroine, the war between them and hunters and their little alliance with the witches. It had a similarity because the man who bit me was a vampire.
