I took out my phone and was about to take a picture when I just noticed that the mermaid had seen me. She leaped back into the water. I ran to the spot where she had earlier sat. "Wait!" I yelled. "I'm not going to hurt you! I just wanted a picture!" I screamed. The mermaid didn't return. Oh well, at least now I know they exist. She was so gorgeous too. The white light from my air bubble shepherds the sight of my eyes to vividly see the aquatic environment. Looking around, there are craggy cliffs behind me and towering rocks beyond. Halfway through my journey, I spotted her face in a small crack in the cliff’s surface. Increasing speed, I propelled myself in that direction and the shoals of fishes parted the way. This mermaid was indeed expecting me. So I had to be extra diligent to not be caught in her allure. I paused ten feet from the ocean floor. Colorful corrals decorate the sandy bed and crabs burrowed into it. I narrowed my eyes for a sharper view through the barnacle rocks to spot her half-hidden form.

“They’re being very determined.” He continued looking at the sky, but my eyes were drawn to the sea, and beneath the ripples of water, I saw a sudden fleeting flash of silver scales. “Either a very big fish just swam by, Rivyn, or...” I said softly. “There!” I pointed feeling a thrill of excitement. There was something about seeing a mermaid beneath the water surface that seemed like a homecoming to me, as if their faces were familiar, and their presence reassuring.

The bravery that sparked from the words I just said were unbelievable. I would have normally just set my feet back a moment ago but not this time. Perhaps, it is because this one is for the sake of seeing my biological mother that I yearn to see even just for a glimpse.

Before the lost mafia boss could decide what to do, something rippled from beneath the sea. Flinching in surprise, Dawn thought his heart would stop when a head floated just above the surface. He couldn’t see the colour of the hair in the dim lights, but something told him it was the same mermaid from earlier. She hadn’t completely left for some reason, even after he threatened to shoot her. What a strange creature. Are all mermaids like her? Plop! The mermaid tossed some items onto the rocks beside him. He had no idea what to make of them, but when his fishy saviour did not move, he cautiously bent to pick them up.

When the tides brushed against him, he felt his other hand get caught on something. He looked down to see a mermaid holding on to him and trying to pull him into the water. Lucian began to pull himself up with one hand and when the mermaid saw this she began to use her powers and forcefully drag him into the water. Neither Lucian nor the mermaid planned on giving up.
