It's a braid of twisted gold with tiny flecks of diamonds and rubies scattered along it so that they wink subtly when I turn my head. I instantly loved it, and Jeanette had given me a knowing smile when she saw me put it on.

Betty’s hands trembled slightly as she fastened the clasps at Emilia’s back, and Emilia couldn’t help but notice her nervousness. “Relax, Betty,” she said gently. “You’re doing well.” Betty blushed, nodding quickly. “Thank you, Your Highness.” Once she was dressed, Matron Isla gestured to a silver circlet resting on a velvet pillow. “Shall I place your coronet, Your Highness?” Emilia hesitated, the sight of the intricate piece making her stomach twist. It was beautiful, but it felt like another layer of distance between herself and her old life. “No,” she said softly. “Not today.”

Regina declared, then went to her bedroom to calm down. “Yes, your majesty,” the assistant said, bowing politely before taking her leave from the empress’s chambers. The servants swiftly entered the room, tidying up the disarray left behind. Every piece of jewelry, from broken pendants to torn laces, was discarded into the trash. Shattered vases and mirrors lay in ruins; nothing had been spared from the havoc. The diligent servants diligently replaced everything with new items, save for a few who secretly stowed away intact pendants with hopes of selling them later.

Crown smiled, encouraging her daughter's stupidity. “That's the problem. I don't know what to do,” Elizabeth shrugged. “Liza, it's so easy. First, you have to find a guy to get you pregnant then you have to find a reason to sleep with your boss, you can drug him.”Mrs Crown suggested. “I'm sure that he wouldn't even ask for a DNA test, knowing how naive he is,” she smirked.

Only enough to show uncertainty but not enough to show fear. “We still control the narrative,” Marcus said, and he could hear the desperation creeping into his voice now, could feel his grip on the situation slipping like sand through clenched fists. “The people still believe in moral corruption. They still believe that the crown has been compromised by degeneracy. All we need is...”
