The humans who are not mated to wolves have no clue about our existence while the ones who do have familial relations with our kind are fully aware that there are shapeshifting creatures in this town. Sparkles has a demon attached to her. Or perhaps she’s attached to it; I’m not really sure at this point in time. But either way, they’re together. Sparkles was mean to begin with, but now she is crueler and has a depth that would have seemed impossible before.”

Mehanda’s breath caught as the wolf trotted closer, silent and commanding. He stopped at the railing and let out a low huff. Slowly, Mehanda reached out. Her fingers sank into his thick, warm fur. The bond snapped into focus, a glowing thread of emotion. She felt Spike’s devotion, his relief, his overwhelming love. “You’re beautiful,” she whispered, burying her face in his the fur of his neck. Spike rumbled, licking her cheek, then turned to the moon and howled. The sound echoed across the valley, full of triumph.
