Gemma sniffled, her small frame wracked with sobs. Beneath my protective embrace, I felt her begin to calm as Easton's deep voice enveloped her like a warm blanket. "They… they like to play," she managed between hiccups. "And sometimes, I smell a bad scent."
I felt my heart drop. "What bad scent, Gemma?" I asked my voice, tight with dread.
"It's like rotten food, and it makes my tummy feel funny," she replied, her little face scrunching in discomfort. "Sometimes I smell it when Logan is around."
