“When do we leave?” Elara looked at them both. “At dawn. We’ll need all the daylight we can get.” They spent the rest of the night preparing for the journey, gathering supplies and weapons. As the first light of dawn crept through the boarded windows, they set out towards the forest, their determination unwavering. The path to the Dark Forest was fraught with obstacles, the air growing colder and the trees denser as they ventured deeper. They moved swiftly, alert to every sound and movement around them.

Jack's POV The forest breathes with life as dawn breaks, the air crisp and laden with the earthy scent of dew-soaked leaves. I rise before the others, my senses attuned to every sound. The pack sleeps in scattered clusters, their forms wrapped in blankets and cloaks against the chill. Last night’s feast brought a rare sense of calm, but it won’t last. It never does.

Xio is not jolly this night while Dawns mind was occupied with that man shes chasing and the moving three in the forest earlier. After dinner, both of them went straight to their room to have some rest. Xio already closed her eyes, any minute from now she's in a deep sleep while Dawn, on the other hand, is preparing herself to go out. She wants to go to the forest again. She did it quietly and quickly as always, every time she sneaks out from their house to the forest.

Her lashes fluttered, breath hitching as if she had surfaced from some dreamless pit, and she blinked blearily into the shifting shadows above.

LILA’S POV Dawn broke across the horizon like a bloodstain on the sky, the edges of clouds tinged with red and gold. I stood atop a ridge overlooking the camp, wings folded against my back, watching as the rejected mates moved through the forest below. Their energy was raw but promising, determination flickering in every motion. Nathan approached quietly, his golden aura dimly illuminating the mist. “You’ve barely slept,” he said softly, concern etched in every line of his face.

These woods belong to Silverpine, but for a few precious moments, they’re yours too. The forest at dawn was a world apart—liminal, almost sacred. Sunlight spilled in thin ribbons through the mist, making every spiderweb into spun silver. Bluebells and foxglove bowed their heads to the cold, and wild mint brushed against her calves, releasing its sharp fragrance. A flock of crows rose from a distant birch, black wings loud in the hush, and for a moment Thalia felt she could vanish into their flight, be nothing more than a shadow moving between trees.

Dawn did not break in the Wildlands. It peeled back the edges of the mist slowly, like a careful hand unwrapping something sacred. Light bled in soft and gold, not from the sky—but from the roots, the stones, the very breath of the glade. The forest did not sleep, and neither did I. Lucian’s warmth was still pressed to my side, though he didn’t speak again. He didn’t need to.

I paced slowly to feel my wounded foot and gladly I could move it better. I explored the foreshore and picked some dry twigs I saw on my way. The full brightness of the moon directed us to the best spot to make a fire. There was a giant oak tree which seemed different from the coastal trees around us. Namir ran ahead like he already knew I was heading there. I was amused watching the big cat run around exuberantly like it’s telling me it was the perfect spot to stay for the night. I laid down all the dry woods I have collected.
