Forty minutes later, Meredith was parking her beaten-up Volkswagen in one of the open parking spaces in CRC. CRC actually stands for Campbell Rehabilitation Center. It was a huge estate in our town, with a big, white façade and a number of different gardens and smaller structures around it. CRC is a place for the less-than-perfect residents of our town. Some stay there for a couple of weeks for little problems such as broken bones that require physical rehabilitation. And yet, some stay for months, maybe even years because they require more intensive rehab… such as those who are terminal, or have head trauma that caused amnesia, or victims of violence… like me.

I raised my hand and gathered a small amount of warmth around my palm and fingers, creating a thin glove of flames that I pressed against my brother. I splayed my fingers and wiggled them through his fur, adding a little pressure when I finally reached the roots and the heat of his skin. Staring at the dancing flames that harmlessly brushed by his dark brown pelt, I focused on my connection to my twin, envisioning a bridge in my mind that connected me to him.

Viktor, ever the stoic enforcer, scanned the perimeter with narrowed eyes, his massive frame ready for anything.

Ravi slammed the door behind him and was startled to find Adrian floating by the window, his wings flapping, hands folded across his chest, wearing a smug expression. He knew all too well that this creature was the one responsible for the chaos Ravi had just experienced. Ravi quickly moved to the window, fists clenched in anger, a sharp gaze directed at him with disapproval. He opened the window with a loud creak. "You're the problem here."
