The Wings Upon Her Back Novels & Stories

My shoulders went still. My demon was suddenly awake. Then he shoved her. Hard. The force sent her skidding backward across the gravel path. And that’s when it happened. Her wings exploded outward. Black. Massive. They snapped open behind her in a powerful sweep of feathers, catching the air like a shield. The sudden burst of movement slowed her fall immediately, the wings adjusting instinctively as they steadied her balance. For a moment they stretched wide behind her. Dark feathers drinking in the sunlight, the edges flashing with that strange blue sheen. Just like her hair.

Jace carried her, and they flew with wings on Jace's huge back. Rain barely dared to open her eyes when the wind hit her body. She couldn't see Jace's face when she flew. She could only see the muscles and veins along the man's shoulders and neck.
