Riley’s POV “DAD!” I throw the front door open. He’s sitting at the dining room table drinking coffee and looking at his laptop. There are piles of receipts and invoices around him. He takes off his glasses and rubs his eyes. “What is it, Riley? I’m working on next week’s schedule. I hired ten kids for the summer as a favor to Dan Landis. I gotta figure out how to fit them in.” He drums his fingers on the table. “Can I put a girl in the mechanic shop with you? She seems like she can handle it. She’s gonna be a Senior. Freya Holt. Do you know her?”

He crossed his legs and raised one of his eyebrows. "What the..." Miles paused, still surprised. Rob was still as handsome as always with his charming oval-shaped face, sharp jawline, a pair of black sparkling and charming, thick eyebrows, long natural eyelashes, broad chest and sexy biceps, and a perfect height of 6'1ft. "So..." Rob paused as he stood from the sofa and went to sit on the chair across from Miles. "Can I still be hired to be your assistant, boss?" Rob leaned forward with a sweet smile on his face.

The name hit him like a blow to the gut, cold and unrelenting. Ricky. He should've known. "Fuck." The curse left him in a tight whisper. He closed his eyes, trying to steady his mind. Ricky was a hothead, always had been, but he wasn't dangerous-not like Victor. At least, not until now. He'd seen Ricky's temper flare, but this? This was reckless. This was stupid.

Whenever they lost sight of what they should do, they could always talk to Victor and find ways out of difficult situations. Naturally, Ryder, Rob, and Ron were all talented and only needed guidance from time to time. At this point, Ryder was already a rather famous entrepreneur in Jorn City and was known for his gentlemanly demeanor. Everyone addressed him as Mr. Ryder. As soon as he saw Faye, Ryder exclaimed with excitement. "Ms. Brown, you finally came. I have very important news to report to you. It's about your mother." He studied Faye's face and was taken aback by how much she resembled the woman Victor loved.

“Who’s lined up as your DD?” The phone rattled as Keely spoke to someone else. “Hey, darlin’, what’s your name again? Robbie? My new friend Robbie,” Keely cooed, “has a tryout early tomorrow morning for a team ropin’ event, and he’s not drinkin’ tonight, so he’ll be our DD as long as we dance with him until closing time.” Keely whispered, “He’s hot, Jess, like really freakin’ hot, and he loves to dance as much as you do. You should come and check him out.”

Faye still remembers the screaming, the smoke, the sharp pain in her side. She looks down at her hand. The scar is hidden under her coat sleeve, but she feels it. Always. Riley was there afterward. Always gentle. Always kind. Still, Faye knows. She can feel it—Riley’s care for her isn’t love. Not even close. He’s like a machine sometimes. A robot stuck on a setting called “duty.” Predictable. Polite. Gentle, even. But never warm. Not in that way. She remembers the time she had that fake fever. It was stupid. But she just wanted to see what he’d do.

He looks smitten in just a snap of fingers. "Oh, I am looking for Riley Miller?" She answered not sure of the name. They suddenly went silent for a moment. They look at each other. They are thinking that Riley is indeed a lucky bastard who is surrounded with many beautiful women. "He is our classmate. For what reason, miss?" Jayden asked with his serious face. " I forgot to introduce my name. I am Xanxeah Ford. I am Riley's third cousin. I am trying on finding him but looks like he knows that already." She energetically talk like she is comfortable sharing information to them.

His skin, crafted from a special synthetic material, was indistinguishable from human skin.
