Eventually, the electricity stopped, and the pictures began flickering again. I breathed heavily through the pain, forcing the tears to keep away. Just as I was able to catch my breath, the pictures stopped again on another grotesque image of a dead wolf. Only this time, the wolf was hanging upside down from a pole. Its bottom half was that of a wolf, but the top half, the arms and chest, was human. The human head sat on a spike next to the body, only it had large fangs poking out of its open mouth. It was gross, sad, and scary. It made me want to cry again. I closed my eyes tight and tried to shake my head.

Frank recoiled in disgust, his bowels desperate to evacuate. He lunged towards the door, but staggered and fell, his feet adhering to the carpet in a coagulated mess of the creatures' excrement. His knee hit one of the things and it thrashed violently. Instinctively, he shot to his feet and leapt for the door again. Again he fell, his fingers scratching frantically at the doorjamb. Something was crawling up his leg inside his trousers. He screamed in abject terror. It was moving up the back of his calf. He kicked his leg to try and dislodge it. Not even a single try. “What does it say?” I asked, brows furrowing as I rubbed both of my palms to create warmth. The cold had been much cruel today ever since we arrived at the healer’s cabin. I encouraged myself to look at the drawings instead; the art style is pretty much gothic, if not ancient. It wasn’t inked. Hues of black and white were embedded on the golden brown pages of the material. I saw the graphics of a human and a werewolf. They were doing something strange… some sort of a ritual. Elliot did not flip the pages further so I ended up guessing that that was it.

I did the research. On my whole lower arm, these are my favorite monsters in fiction: Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, the Hunchback of Notre Dame, and course, a zombie. If you can see more closely it's a picture of me—zombified. Aww, thanks so much, Zeke. It just sounds funny when you say 'sexy zombie.'

The atmosphere was suffocating, heavy with despair and hatred. In front of the gates, three powerful creatures stood out. To the right, a white Lycan with golden tips in his fur and eyes red as embers. At the center, a witch with flaming hair and shimmering purple eyes. To the left, a great Dracula, with prominent fangs and eyes as black as the night. On the ground, drawn in blood, mystical symbols formed a circle. At the center of that circle, a baby lay wrapped in a cloak adorned with enigmatic engravings. The little one cried in despair as a dagger hovered menacingly above him.

I studied him, but his expression was blank as he tugged at his collar and walked to Frank. Frank swept back his long greasy hair and dropped the teeth, causing his pale face to transform into something monstrous. Frank's choice of clothing bordered on the sado-masochistic. He loved his leather chaps and straps and enjoyed exposing his narrow, scrawny chest. He wasn't the cleanest Vampire in the world, and I never allowed him to put his hands on me. Paul seemed relaxed as he offered his neck. Frank's eyes rolled up in his head as he bit down on the pulse in Paul's neck.

He clenched his fist as he joined them in battle, killing as many as he could. Diana watched as the oldest vampire stepped out of the tomb. He was tall, his skin was pale and his hair was silver and silky, he was well-built with triceps and biceps muscles and strands of hair covered his brawny chest. He was naked. Diana flickered her hands and a red robe surrounded him, she smirked as he looked at him. “Bow before me!” Aurelius Franklin thundered and his voice echoed through the woods. Weak tree branches swayed toward the proclamation of his voice.

Just unmarked leather and the weight of secrets waiting to be discovered. I opened it carefully, mindful of pages that looked fragile enough to crumble at a touch. The first page made me gasp aloud. Ink drawings filled the yellowed paper—not the crude sketches of an amateur, but artwork of remarkable skill and disturbing beauty. A wolf, massive and powerful, its eyes rendered in such detail I could swear they were watching me from the page. And beside it, a woman in flowing robes, her hand extended toward the beast as if in offering or benediction.

"This is far from typical werewolf bonding or any relationship dynamics I've read about. Even for magical entanglements, this is... unprecedented."
