It was a woman. One look at her, and it was clear she had been through hell. Her face was bruised, and she could hardly walk when she was brought in. “They tried to sell me,” she said, her voice quavering.
Goodness, the vampires were selling people now? The idea made me sick to my stomach. Why did it seem as though we were back decades ago, when humans were nothing more than property to these supernaturals? After Dad’s death, I had read countless books on this period, finding more reasons to believe the vampires were nothing more than humanoid monsters.
