Franklin shook his head gently. “You know I can’t do that.”
His gaze moved past her, locking onto Rose. His expression softened immediately. “Rose,” he said warmly, crouching slightly. “Don’t you miss your uncle?”
Rose didn’t even look at him properly. Her face was scrunched up, her mood clearly ruined. “I’m hungry,” she muttered, “but food is bad.”
“That’s exactly why I’m here,” Franklin said smoothly. “I recently got a new chef. His food is really good. I remembered you, so I told him to make something special just for you.” He smiled. “If you don’t like it, I’ll eat everything myself.”
