Though a Mirror Darkly

Though a Mirror Darkly

“So where’d this last batch of donations come from?” “Let’s see. Bassler Memorial Library sent over a box of discards,” she says, quickly becoming all-business, “mostly teen paperback novels from the eighties. All in good shape, but stamped BASSLER LIBRARY on the leafs, with the sign-out-cards still pasted in the back. I put those in the twenty-five cent bin like you said.” “Cool. What was in those UPS boxes dropped off this morning?” “A donation from the used bookstore in Binghamton that closed. Paperbacks Plus? A whole collection of Leisure Horror paperbacks. Keene, Kenyon, Braunbeck, Ketchum, Sangiovanni . . . big catch, all brand new copies. How’d you work that?”

Chosen Mates, Stolen Fates

Chosen Mates, Stolen Fates

It all comes out rushed. “I beg your pardon?” “What… are you doing… that box, I mean, I need it.” “Oh! The Alpha has requested that the recent box be taken to his office. He’s going to arrange for some donations to the children’s wing of the infirmary–” “Those… aren’t children’s books,” I stammer. “I can get you some. Actually, the Luna is here–she’s in the kid’s section–not reading, I mean–I mean she can read, of course, just–”

Choked And Claimed By My Brother’s Best Friend

Choked And Claimed By My Brother’s Best Friend

“This is tasteless. Just tasteless.” I held the lurid paperback up like it was evidence in a crime. “It’s called Underwater Sex.” Only Alonzo would send me something like this. Only Alonzo would think dumping nearly a thousand books on my doorstep—delivered in crates so heavy the movers cursed—was some grand gesture. I hadn’t even wanted to accept them. But returning that many boxes would’ve cost a small fortune. So, instead, my friends and I had spent the afternoon in my spare bedroom, trying to sort through the chaos.

The Haunted Vibrator

The Haunted Vibrator

It was a different thing if they were gifted. Opening the package, the librarian marvelled at the tasteful packaging. The box looked exquisite, nothing like raunchy third-rate toys made from possibly a sweatshop factory in China. It rivalled those expensive branded perfumes from high-end shopping districts. Already, she had high expectations for the limited edition vibrator set the company promised the participants of their No Nut November Challenge.

Reckless Love {Dangerous Passion}

Reckless Love {Dangerous Passion}

Two dozen or more cardboard boxes were neatly stacked. “What are these?” she called out to Daniel. “Discards,” he said, coming to her corner. “Maggie’s old law books. There’s a business college with a paralegal program in town. I was going to donate the books to their little law library.” “Going to?” “Well, I still am. I just haven’t quite...” Eleanor gave him a flat, steady stare. “How long have these been sitting here in those boxes?” “A year, I suppose.”

My Nightmares

My Nightmares

I start to rifle through the old musty smelling box of books that had been left on my porch, when I notice a little children’s book. I see the symbol of the Golden Children’s Books printed on it, then a little sticker on the binding indicating that it belongs to the library catches my eye. Examining it closer, the pages are bent back and discolored, but the book is still in suitable condition. My nails peel at the tape as I fidget and try to figure out what to do next.

All the Feels

All the Feels

On my way home, I stop by the Lending Library. Our neighborhood has been blessed with a wonderful treasure, the Lending Library. It's the most sacred of treasures for a reader like me. The idea is, I read a book, and when I'm finished, I return it to the Lending Library for someone else to read. The Lending Library is a large bookshelf that stands on a post. It resembles a mailbox.

Claimed By The Alpha

Claimed By The Alpha

“October 10th. Two thousand and one.” Miss Ada nodded, her fingers dancing over the keys. “I’ve already got the address for the pack house in the system. Just a moment, dear.” A small whir came from the side printer, and Miss Ada retrieved a fresh library card with Ryleigh’s name printed in bold at the bottom. “Here you go,” she said, handing it over. “You can check out five books at a time. They’re due back in two weeks. If we’re closed, there’s a drop box right by the front door.”

Sold to the Mafia Boss

Sold to the Mafia Boss

I didn't care much as to know what they were carrying until they dropped the boxes next to the bathroom door and the other guards brought in a white spiraling shelf. " Boss asked us to bring you some books and magazines " the first guy said, before going back to direct where the shelf should be placed. I don't want books, I want my fucking phone! I wanted to scream that to their faces but I knew it was pointless. They couldn't do anything. They all worked for him and it would be completely pointless fighting them. After a long while of watching them arrange the three boxes of novels on the shelf, they walked out.

Captive Of The Count

Captive Of The Count

She walked towards me and placed another box next to me and I reached out to it while still clutching at the frame. I picked at the ribbons and unwrapped them, the sides of the box fell apart to reveal books, childish fairytale books that I always saw in the hands of my mates when younger and I wish I had them. Books that when I got the chance to look at it, I stuttered when I read and then I gave up. Besides the books were CDs of cartoons that Amara had talked about from her childhood and I couldn't relate cause I wasn't privy to them.

I am liking the story and definitely hooked. My personal opinion, I wish Amara wasn't so naive after what happened to her when she was younger. However, as Amara's story develops the personality type seems to make sense. I look forward to reading more chapters and watching for those updates.

This book is a sequel to “The Alpha King’s Rejected Mate” and should be read after the first book. Plot was very interesting and the enemies to lovers vibe was super intense! The book could use proofreading, but overall a great story with a HEA! :)

Frequently Asked Questions

As someone who loves stumbling upon hidden literary gems, I can't rave enough about free book library boxes. These little treasure troves are like community-run bookstores without the price tag. I've discovered so many unexpected favorites—like 'The House in the Cerulean Sea' and 'Pachinko'—that I'd never have picked up otherwise. They're perfect for trying new genres risk-free, and the thrill of not knowing what you'll find adds to the charm.

Beyond personal benefits, these boxes build connections. I once left a note in a well-loved copy of 'Project Hail Mary,' and months later found a reply from the next reader tucked inside. They also promote sustainability by keeping books circulating instead of gathering dust. For parents, they're a goldmine—my niece goes wild picking colorful picture books from our neighborhood box. Rain or shine, these libraries keep stories accessible to everyone, no matter their budget.
