Riven’s POV The camp spread out below me like a dark stain on the earth. I crouched on a rocky ridge, staring down at it. Rows of fires burned brightly, their orange light fighting the thick, smoky sky. Banners with Kaden’s cruel symbol waved above the tents, bold and proud. His men moved like ants in armor, their swords and spears catching the firelight. The air smelled of metal, sweat, and something rotten: a sour stench that reminded me of the poisoned wolves’ blood I’d fought before.

The Nightfang raven found them two mornings later. They’d camped high, just below the treeline, where the wind came knife‑sharp off the peaks, and the sun took its time slanting down into the hollows. Frost crackled underfoot when Rin stepped away from the fire to stretch, breath pluming white. A dark shape rode the updrafts above them, wings wide, catching light on glossy feathers. It circled once twice, then folded and dropped in a clean, controlled fall that ended with a flutter of wings and a hop onto a low boulder near Kael’s saddle.

All around us the camp was quiet. The fire was nothing but a faint orange glow in the pit, kids curled up in blankets like little foxes. The air smelled like ash and damp pine. I’d been trying, but failing to sleep for hours. My body was heavy but my mind just… wouldn’t shut up. Rafe’s voice still rang in my head from earlier, every word another bruise. The children’s hollow eyes haunted me. Even Frey’s crooked smile left me feeling all tangled up inside. Now here he was, all tall and lean, leaning like he’d been waiting just for me. Maybe he had.

Lyra called out, lifting the hem of her gown as she hurried after him, her face filled with panic. "I'm cancelling the marking ceremony!" Raven coldly, without so much as a glance back. And with that, he followed Darren out of the hall. Darren hurriedly led Raven to the healer's lodge, and the latter violently pushed open the cabin door. "Wait, Raven, you can't go in yet." Several female healers tried to block him, but he pushed them aside. With trembling hands, he lifted the white cloth covering the face of the body, then froze. He mumbled, "This... isn't Allie."

I had learned to hide the cracks, to bury fear beneath skill and determination. But the vision had opened something raw. Fire had a way of cleaning, yes, but it also left scars. And this fire… this one wasn’t for me to fight alone. We reached camp, and Raven was there, crouched by the coals, tossing chopped vegetables into a simmering stew. She looked up and grinned. “Ah, our favorite hunter returns. Did you kill it, or did it kill you?” I allowed myself a small smile. “It’s down. And I’m intact.”

After Freya had a brief meeting with Xaden, she went back to her room and laid down on her bed, thinking about the risks involved in what she had gotten herself into. But still, she wanted to see to it to the end. If truly Logan was a son of a bitch, then it would be fortunate for her that she had planned ahead and would definitely scale through any attack against her or Xaden because right now, the one who she saw as her worst enemy seemed to make her feel like he would be a great ally.

Raven repeated when Jericho just continued to stare at her in silence. Jericho blinked after he was caught being trapped in a trance. He instantly rushed to help the others. Despite knowing that Jericho doesn’t like her, Raven still kept no bad feelings towards him. That’s just how kind she was. To make things fast so that people could finally take shelter from the cold, Raven also volunteered to distribute the supplies. One by one they gave the supplies in a straight line until Stacy arrived. Stacy, Raven had almost forgotten about her. Stacy is the gamma’s daughter, one of the powerful female figures in the Pack aside from Celia.
