Sage said her voice dripping with sarcasm. Megan had grabbed his hand in hopes of relaxing him some. That’s when she felt the surge that ran through Justin. With a smile, she looked into his eyes searching for some answer to a question he didn’t know that he should have asked. “What?” He asked puzzled at her look. “Justin you have magic.” Explained Megan. She watched Justin as he tried to digest the information. “Wait. No, I have no idea what you are talking about.” Gasped Justin as he snatched his hand away.

“Best friends. Besties. It’s the same thing.” He flashed me a heart-breaking grin. “Besties, I like it.” This was fucking pointless! With a huff of pure frustration, I continued shoveling food into my mouth until the urge to leap across the kitchen island faded into a mild case of indigestion. Azrael munched happily on one of the rolls without a care in the world. “Anyway, moving on from our budding friendship, I regret to inform you that you do not have epic, God-killing magic. If you did, Orion would’ve splattered you along the walls. You simply have abnormally strong willpower and ovaries of steel.”

That left Selene and me to start a fire. I brought together a pile of tinder and dry leaves when Selene crouched down beside me. She blew gently into the leaves and they erupted into flames that fed hungrily on the pile of tinder. I had never seen magic like this before, so I was fascinated by the trick. It was hidden in my very smile. But I was in a place I didn't even know. There was no magic that would bring me back to the place where I was born. There was no magic in times of sorrow.
