Bite
I keep my tone stoic as I say, “People kiss all the time; at parties, in school toilets, in cars. Everyone gets horny. Kissing doesn’t mean anything.”
She takes in a sharp breath, and I can’t decipher what it means.
“You’re right,” she agrees carefully. “Kissing doesn’t… it doesn’t have to mean anything.”
A strange feeling jolts through my chest. But what was I expecting? That she’d talk more about it?
I feel her shift away, the air growing colder the more she heads for the door.
“One last thing,” she says, as if it isn’t always something with her.
“Yes?”
“That was the first time you ever used magic, right?”
