"Use this to dry your skin once you're done with the shower." As soon as I finished, I closed the door and left, only to pause for a second before opening the door again. Axil stood in the same spot where I left him, gazing at the door... well now me intensely. I pointed at the doorknob, "this knob is to open and close doors. You see this little thingy on the knob? It's called a lock. When you twist it this way," I twisted it right, "the door locks itself and no one could enter the room, which gives you privacy. If you want to unlock the door and come back out, you turn it left, got it?"

After inserting three keys on the doorknob with her shaking fingers, she finally got the correct key. The lock clicked and Flora immediately twisted the knob and opened the door. The room looked the same as when she saw it last and she was filled with doubt if Nadi could be inside. With a feeling of dread, she closed the door behind her and slowly entered the room. There was no sign of Nadi.

With renewed vigor, I began to turn the fork in the keyhole once again. “Please open, I beg of you.” I whispered underneath my breath while still turning the fork around. A moment later, a sound of the door unlocking echoed loudly and a loud, a relieved sigh fell past my lips. I hadn’t believed that the fork could actually get the door open when I began to use it. I gripped the knife tightly as I turned the doorknob and pulled the door open.

With a trembling breath, I stick the straight end of the hairpin about one centimeter, or about 1/3 of an inch, into the keyhole of the doorknob while applying enough pressure to bend the end of the pin into a hook. I know this will take long but I hope I can successfully open this Goddamn door before Ryle arrives. My surroundings became mute as I darted with an eye, full of concentration on the doorknob. A decorative brass robe hook, in the shape of an elephant, with its trunk in the air, fastened to the wall right next to where Duke lay flat on his back.

A slow, deliberate turn of the doorknob. Someone was trying to get in.

She couldn’t understand what could be so funny, at least not until he held up his hands. He still gripped the doorknob. Both of them actually, the dented knob that had been on the inside of the room and the pristine knob that had been on the outside of the room, still connected by the spindle, the latch that slid into the jam to lock it protruding from the midway point. She glanced back at the door and saw a hole a little smaller than a baseball where the knob had been, the wood around it broken. “I did it,” he said triumphantly, holding the doorknobs up like a trophy he’d won. “I motherfucking, bet-your-ass did it!”
