I growl at all three of them, I didn’t have time for this, I needed to get to Christian. The two men and Calli visibly relax and Calli finally looks at me “What the fuck was that Ashley?” Breydon smirks, blood dripping from his mouth “The Queen has taken her place”

The Queen of Ash, now fully awakened. And she would not fall easily.

“I made the mistake of believing in something that wasn't real.” He did not look back. He did not stop. The chapter ends with me, the Queen of Nothing, watching the King of Ashes disappear, his back as cold and final as the tomb he was rebuilding around his heart, a tomb I had just helped him build.
