Amaya stood by the window, not saying a word. The blinds were half open, letting in rays of sunlight, but her eyes weren’t seeing anything. Her arms stayed crossed over her chest. The long blue gown she wore shimmered gently under the light. It was a dress she had always loved, simple, flowy, with small beads at the neckline, but today, even her favorite things couldn’t lift her mood.
She didn’t hear Morris enter until he called out.
“See what I harvested today,” he said cheerfully, holding up a basket full of oranges. His shirt was soaked with sweat, and his face was all sweaty. “Straight from the farm. For my beautiful wife.”
