In the pod, Maya’s skin had turned a translucent, ghostly grey. The violet flicker was almost gone. The decay had reached her core.
“She’s not dying, Silas,” Lisa said, her hand hovering over the genetic template she had stolen from the archive. “She’s waiting. She was waiting for the right frequency. And you were kind enough to build it for her.”
“You think you can use the Pillar?” Silas laughed, a sound that felt like glass shattering. “I designed this conduit. I am the only one who can modulate the output. If you touch that interface, you’ll be vaporized.”
