I dreamed about Astra, the wolf in Child of Stars. The story didn't describe how she looked, but I envisioned her being a beautiful golden sable with bright blue eyes. In my dream, her colors began to lighten and shift until she was the white silver of my wolf with my bright blue eyes and the three jet black scratch marks across her right eye.

Eventually the electricity stopped, and the pictures began flickering again. I breathed heavily through the pain, forcing the tears to keep away. Just as I was able to catch my breath, the pictures stopped again on another grotesque image of a dead wolf. Only this time, the wolf was hanging upside down from a pole. Its bottom half was that of a wolf, but the top half, the arms and chest, was human. The human head sat on a spike next to the body, only it had large fangs poking out of its open mouth. It was gross, sad, and scary. It made me want to cry again. I closed my eyes tight and tried to shake my head.

Her vision swirled with brilliant colors, then settled, revealing an ethereal scene. Suspended in the vastness of the cosmos, was a luminous, iridescent egg. Its shell shimmered with a soft, otherworldly glow, shifting between shades of deep violet and radiant silver, like the night sky encapsulated in a single fragile sphere. Inside the cosmic egg, two small wolves played, their forms glowing with a light that seemed to come from within. The first was Zayn, a sleek black wolf, his fur dark as midnight, with a powerful yet gentle presence. He moved with a confident grace, his large paws barely making a sound as he playfully chased after the smaller wolf beside him.

Equipment I recognized from Kelly's facility, medical and mystical combined. And photos. Dozens of photos pinned to a cork board that covered one entire wall. Photos of Ghost Wolves. Most were old, grainy images that looked like they'd been copied from historical records. Ghost Wolves in various stages of transformation. Anatomical diagrams. Notes about power manifestation and control. But three photos were recent. High quality. Taken with modern equipment.

The werewolf came, its feet hitting the ground mercilessly as its hands joined in its movement. It broke out from the woods, tearing off the leaves of the trees with less effort, and growling at the sight of the man. “You can't take anyone from my family.!” Mark grinned as he shifted under the bright moonlight. His bones cracked, and his skin stretched beyond its limits, tearing to become as tough as that of a wolf. He growled at the phantom, just as the phantom growled at him. Like two behemoths, they collided, and the green grasses on the ground fell victim to their battle.

He smiled finally, showing Archer and I the book, he held so close to his chest, placing it down on the desk in front of us, the old papers showcased the point he was making. Looking right back at us was an old hand drawn photo of a wolf, deep in the dark woods but the wolf’s fur bright white, with little specks of gold as though some gold dust had been sprinkled over him. With a tiny gasp, it was as though I was looking at a photo of my wolf. “It looks exactly the same as yours.” Archer tells me staring in my eyes, where I had to take a deep breath in to not burst from all this inane information going in all at one.

I don't know why I didn't notice this earlier. I took the file and stared at the logo. It was a picture of a black wolf with red eyes and some shade of gold in it. The wolf was surrounded by a crescent moon. It can't be a coincidence that a wolf is their company logo and that I always saw Wolfie close to the company. It seems there is some kind of mystery about the company. My phone rang interrupting me from my thoughts. "Hey Kayla" I greeted placing my phone on the table "Ry, how are you?" She was sitting on her bed and was already in her pyjamas.

And it looked good with the black cargo pants that hung low on my hips. I left my bedroom and found Lucky waiting for me in the living room. He held a bottle of beer in his hand and stood, staring at a painting of a chocolate brown wolf with tawny highlights, on the brick wall. The Wolf had a beautiful blue leafy swirl from the top of its eye curled around its ear to the base of its snout-the same cerulean blue, so much like another Wolf's eyes that I couldn't seem to get out of my head.

It hit like a tidal wave, dragging me under all over again. I forced myself to stand, weak and shivering. As I turned toward the mirror, something caught my eye, just for a moment. My wolf was there, but not like any I’d ever seen, she was massive, jet black, darker than night, darker than death itself. Her eyes burned like fire, vivid orange flames dancing in a soulless void. I screamed and stumbled backward, crashing to the floor, my heart pounding like war drums. When I dared to look again, she was gone. Only my own reflection stared back, shaken. What are you? I thought, clutching my chest.
