I turned from the flames and ducked into my tent, the heavy flap falling shut behind me. Inside, shadows stretched long across the walls, the air thick with smoke and leather. A single lantern burned on the table, throwing a small circle of light over the mess of maps and crude battle plans I had scrawled.

As they approached the entrance, they were greeted by the harrowing screams of pigs being slaughtered, followed by a pungent stench—the place was filled with pig feces from the pens. The pig screams masked the excited shouts of gamblers effectively, and the filthy, stinky environment meant that any inspectors wouldn’t scrutinize too closely. We arrived at the camp about an hour later, which makes it an hour ride on our horses. There was nothing impressive at first about the camp until I climbed down from my horse and began touring the vicinity. The camp was located deep in the forest, about ten miles away from Muldoch. There was no way anyone could have suspected that a camp hosting criminals was built there. It was a genius idea on the part of Gama and his men to build their camp in such an isolated area. Yes, I guess he should be commended for that.
