Demi looked at her with the warm precision that was her specific brand of love, the kind that saw you accurately and chose you anyway. "Forty-seven pages is a lot of handwriting," she said. "Yes," Nora said. "It is." She turned to her desk and opened her thesis. I came to and tried to open my eyes only to see nothing but darkness. The bastard had put a blindfold on me. I tried to sit up but was stopped short. The title page and table of contents looks normal, but I keep flipping pages to get to chapter one. Two more pages and I’m staring at the first chapter, titled “Finding a Companion.” I almost missed the title completely because my eyes were drawn to the center of the page where there was a rectangular shaped wooden box. All the pages had been cut through the center to fit this box inside, and there was something carved into the box.
