His book was lying there, the pages fluttering in the breeze. He didn't need to write anymore. The story was told. Aradaa and Kaelor walked down the steps and toward the treeline. Their figures began to fade, merging with the light and the shadow of the trees. The Unified Network in the sky gave one last, golden pulse—a "Goodbye" that resonated through every leaf and every stone. The wind blew the pages of the "Book of the Two Kings" until it reached the very last leaf. The ink was dark, permanent, and simple.

"Hop in, Mr. Crowe! If we leave now, you'll still make it to the airport in time." Very soon, I left the base behind in their car. As I looked at the place where I had spent the last five years, I realized there was not even the slightest trace of attachment left in my heart anymore. The wind outside the window still blew relentlessly across the desert. But somehow, against my face, it no longer felt so cold. Leaning back against the seat, I watched the lights of the base grow farther and farther away in the rearview mirror. The corners of my lips slowly curled upward.

"Mr. Smith, do you know something?" Captain Stone also immediately turned to the butler. "What do you know?" Mr. Smith bit his lip and explained hesitatingly, "On the day when the previous madam was to donate her blood, Ms. Sydney quietly sought out the doctor. I happened to be passing by and heard them talking about drawing blood, and I also heard Ms. Sydney say that it was Mr. Hawthorne's intention, and that she would give the doctor 500 thousand dollars after it was done.

The world didn’t react the way I expected it to. There should have been something. A collapse of sound. A rupture of meaning. A clean ending that told my body it could finally stop moving. Instead, there was only rain. Elias lay where he fell, half turned onto his side like the ground had simply refused to catch him properly. Water hit his armor in slow, uneven drumming. Patient. Indifferent. Almost respectful, in a way that made my stomach twist. I stood over him.

The book in her hands, she flipped through its yellowish pages, shocked to discover it was the children's book she had with her when she was dumped on the orphanage steps. It wasn't just a copy, it was exactly the same.

The conversation had died it seemed. “And where was Leo last night?” he finally asked after he had some coffee in him. “The two of you really don’t talk anymore, do you? I thought you told each other everything.” She scrubbed a plate roughly with a scouring pad, the water so hot it turned her hands red almost instantly. It burned. But she welcomed the pain this morning. “There’s no reason to be contrary. It was a simple question.” Oh, there was plenty reasons to be contrary indeed.
