Chapter Twenty-Six Anders Hidden deep within the castle, underneath the ground was a cave. It wasn’t really a cave as in the word, but a place that looked like one. Gargoyles were stationed at almost every corner making it look eerie. These gargoyles came to life once they sensed a Vampire within their territory, and each of them belonged to every Vampire in the Kingdom. I walked to my own. It was short, and barely reached my knees. Its teeth was bared in what was supposed to be a smile, but instead, it looked like a scary creature smiling at its prey.

This wasn’t a school. This was a sentence. I paused just beyond the iron portcullis, my stomach twisting into something sharp. Everything here reeked of punishment and power. Even the stone seemed to hum with it—a low, vibrating thrum that settled in your bones and whispered submit. Gargoyles leered from above, their eyes carved to follow you wherever you walked. The sigils etched around the doors pulsed faintly, not welcoming but warning. Wards. Strong ones. Not to keep intruders out—but to keep the monsters in.

The words seemed to leap off the page, filling the room with an eerie sense of foreboding. Everything written in the book didn't make any sense to either Stella or Morgan.
