Chapter Twenty-Six Anders Hidden deep within the castle, underneath the ground was a cave. It wasn’t really a cave as in the word, but a place that looked like one. Gargoyles were stationed at almost every corner making it look eerie. These gargoyles came to life once they sensed a Vampire within their territory, and each of them belonged to every Vampire in the Kingdom. I walked to my own. It was short, and barely reached my knees. Its teeth was bared in what was supposed to be a smile, but instead, it looked like a scary creature smiling at its prey.

Clinging to the sheer glass sides of the towering skyscrapers, descending rapidly toward the convoy, were Blackwatch Gargoyles. They were specialized, spider-like mechs driven by human pilots, equipped with magnetic clamps that allowed them to scale vertical surfaces. They carried heavy plasma repeaters, aiming directly down into the narrow, unshielded gaps between the Behemoth and the Ironhead transports. "They're flanking us vertically!" Torque yelled over the radio, leaning out of his buggy to fire his combat shotgun blindly up at the glass walls. The Gargoyles opened fire. Their forms shifted between solid and mist, never completely being one or the other. “Golems,” Helick said. He hadn’t seen the beasts himself, but from the relayed descriptions, he was certain he was correct. He cursed. The descriptions fell miles short of the reality. “As in the thing that took down Penny?” Shea asked. “Now there are two of them.” Bryan walked over to them. “Tell me you guys are seeing this too.”
