Yet, its surface was devoid of words or symbols. It resembled a book of blank celestial scriptures.

Birds had nested in the dashboard. At midday, they stopped to eat. Damon pulled from his pack a battered copy of *Watership Down*, which he’d scavenged from a burned library two towns back. He read aloud as they chewed dried fruit and jerky, his voice soft and oddly reverent. It was the only book they’d kept, after the world ended. As he read, Elena watched Donovan run perimeter checks, ever alert. She wondered if this vigilance would ever break, if he could ever trust in the possibility of a future. Damon caught her glance and folded the book shut, reading her mind as always.

Anna placed her hand on Anita's shoulder. "Let's go, Anna. I'll fix her problem." Gaia said. "Wait." Anita looked up and picked a book from the stack on the floor. "Book One. You'll know it's real." Anna stared at the book in her hand, with hard aesthetic cover, 'Who are they?' The title sparkled in pure gold as she stared at it. "I..." "Let's go. We wouldn't want Lord Xandros to find you here." Gaia said and she nodded her head, following him immediately.

I ask, the memory of my blood falling on the stone's face and what came after it. “I’m not a hundred percent sure. Saying that I have been led to believe that… certain shifters who hold genes close to the gods, powerful DNA, can access the power or magic those stones hold.” “Like a Grimalkin?” He purses his lips, pale eyes narrowing on me, “Like a Grimalkin,” he confirms. Abner tosses the small black book at me and I easily catch it. It’s plain, with no writing, and thin maybe only twenty pages.

He asks, “While you think of something to choose, I’m gonna get something. Stay here.” Goldie watches Darryl walk away from him. He stands still for a moment, before looking at the books that surrounded him. He notices a book that is not much bigger than his hand. The cover is simple, with nothing but the illustration of red circles within a circle at the bottom half, and the name “Dante” written on the top half. He picks it up and inspects it, trying to read other words on the back of the book. He was able to process some of the words, but could not understand the whole paragraph.

Blood spills out from open wound. I take a step back as Valdis begins to stand again. He sheds his black armor, replacing it with deep ruby scales.  His scales, are cold as ice, blaze bright as an ever-flickering flame. His chest holds a hearth of burning fire, although in his remorseless heart lays rime much like the depths of his eyes. He lets out a huff of steamy air from his nose, staring on at me. The officials in the room gather in the back. Waves of fear roll from them in large bouts. My father stares into my eyes sending a large bout of dominance soaring through the room. The intense pressure has me gasping for air but I fight the urge to submit to him by releasing my own dominance.

It still overwhelmed me that beneath the palace and the outside world lies a room full of treasure. While I look and awe myself at different items and my eyes sparkle with glee, I notice another pedestal in the center. I stand in front of it is another book, but this one is open, and only one page is written, while the others are blank. The one page is registered as a poem in ancient text.
