A wad of cold fear formed in her stomach. “What gate?” she asked, confused. His smile widened beneath the cracked mask. “The Gate of Collapse.” A ripple of horror spread through the room. A Noctis envoy shouted, “That’s a myth!” A Solaris judge protested, “That gate cannot exist!” Ariadne stiffened. “Explain yourself.” The assassin stretched his fingers, corrupted luminous dancing between them. “The Gate is real. And only one soul can unlock it.” He pointed at Alessia with two fingers. “Yours.”

Every god hoping I would become predictable. The next trouble came through the side door, where bad news usually entered. In the First Gate, symbols had weight. It stained sleeves, cracked floors, moved through crowds, and made ordinary people choose sides before they understood the question. The ash-light pressed against every window while a dead radio marked the next turn of the case. Nothing about the Final Gate War felt clean. It felt like another emergency arriving before the last one had been wiped off the stones. I almost disappeared into it. Then Ava yanked the cord.

His eyes met mine over the rim of his mug and held. “Morning,” Gates said without looking up. “I’m out the door in ten. Late night client call again. Don’t wait up.” “Okay.” My voice sounded normal. My body did not feel normal. I could still feel the stretch from the night before. Jace set a mug in front of me. His fingers brushed mine and lingered a second too long. “Sleep well?” “Fine.” Gates grabbed his keys. “You two try not to burn the house down while I’m gone.” He kissed the air near my cheek and left. The door closed. The silence that followed felt charged.

Red lightning arced less frequently, less violently, though the energy was still immense. And then I saw it again. Movement beyond the crimson rifts, beyond the reflections and distortions. It was more solid this time, more deliberate. It didn’t move like a shadow, it moved with purpose, stepping across the threshold, probing, testing the barrier. Not a reflection. Not a copy. Something real. I felt my stomach tighten. Whatever was behind the Gate… it wasn’t waiting for a reflection to escape. It was ready to enter. And the Gate had been feeding it, nurturing it, drawing it closer, every time we faltered.

When she was done, she walked over to her mom's table and trailed her hands through the drawers, she remembers seeing her mum open one of her drawers with a code. When she got to the 3rd drawer she stopped and opened it, she saw a safe inside the drawer and she smiled before she inserted the code "0429" and the safe opened. The file was right there staring at her when she opened the safe, "GENETICS CHANGE" was written boldly on the file, she swiftly took it and left her mum's office.

“Whatever’s on the other side, it’s waiting for us.” Callan placed a hand on her shoulder, their glowing form a reassuring presence. “We are with you, Emma. Always.” The group gathered behind her as the gateway began to shift, the symbols rearranging themselves into a new pattern. The air crackled with energy, and a faint light began to seep through the cracks in the massive doors. “Here we go,” Vivienne muttered, her dagger gleaming in the glow. As the gateway creaked open, a wave of energy washed over them, and the mist surged forward, enveloping them completely. Emma clutched the key tightly, her resolve hardening as the unknown stretched out before them.

Evelyn POV As soon as Reuben launches the attack he steps on the car gas pedal and brings the car back to life. He speeds around the road corner, trying to make the most of the distraction Nate has created. And it seems to have worked. As we reach the main gates there are only two guards on patrol who can’t withstand Reuben’s kingly aura and succumb to his command to open the gates. Their alpha might be a turn coat but they are still part of Reuben’s alliance…still following Reuben’s rule.

“Four bloods.” Her voice echoed. “Four vessels.” A man stepped beside her. Kael’s father. He looked younger. Desperate. “What happens if one fails?” The Guardian looked at him. “They all fail.” “And if they succeed?” “The Gate opens.” Kael’s father smiled. “Then we’ll have what we need.” The Guardian’s expression hardened. “No.” He looked at her. “You don’t understand.” “I understand perfectly.” “The world beyond the Gate is dying.” “That does not give you the right to steal children.”

Vale stepped back slightly, giving space as if observing an experiment reaching a crucial stage. “This is what we intended,” he said calmly. “Synchronization. A unified conduit capable of stabilizing the Gate.” The air seemed to thicken at that word. Gate. The same word from the vision. The same whisper that had echoed through the mark when I touched it. My pulse quickened. “You said awakening,” I said sharply. “Awakening of what?” Vale’s gaze returned to me. “The threshold,” he answered. “The boundary between planes.” Cold realization slid down my spine.

But then again, if I were someone who derived pleasure from killing people, I guess a heavy metal gate would be just what I needed to shield myself from the consequences of my actions. Two heavily built men stand on either side of the gate. Their eyes lock on the vehicle as we approach, and once we stop in front of the gate, one of the men walks towards us.
