POV: Guller The ghosts were louder now that the guns were silent. I stood on the raised dais of the Burning Grounds. The air was thick enough to chew. It tasted of sulfur, Barzil-accelerant, and the copper tang of ten thousand spilled lives. My head throbbed. A rhythmic, stabbing pressure centered behind my left eye. It wasn't a migraine. It was the psychic weight of the dead pressing against the inside of my skull.

The sadness in her tone was heavy, matching the gloom of the ruins. I signaled the advance. If the outside looked neglected, the interior was a graveyard of memories. It was silent…..unnervingly so. How am I supposed to find the eldest woman in a ghost town? A heavy thud startled me. I spun around to see Novel sliding from Kitty’s back, hitting the dirt. I rushed to her side, my heart hammering against my ribs. I wanted to roar at the wolf, who at least had the grace to look guilty, but the sight of Novel’s pale, unconscious face silenced my anger.

I said through my teeth. “I know that look,” he replied softly. The memory flashed in my mind before I could stop it. The night of the first war. Garrett’s forces at the edge of our land. Smoke rising, and wolves screaming. I had been on watch then too, and saw them first. I ran to warn Blood Moon, but wasn’t fast enough, and Wolves died. “I won’t let that happen again,” I muttered. Grayson nodded slowly. “And that’s honorable.” “Don’t patronize me.”

My off-road vehicle tore across the border line, but I didn't head toward the bustling human cities. Instead, I turned the wheel toward the one place every werewolf feared to tread: Death Valley. There, I found them. A pack of Rogues, cast out and exiled by their former tribes. They were a sorry sight—missing legs, blinded eyes, dressed in rags that barely clung to their emaciated frames. Their eyes held nothing but hollow despair. In my last life, I wasted my White Wolf gifts playing the dutiful housewife, cooking soup for two ungrateful Alphas.

Whatever lies on the other side of that opening is worse than anything we have seen. Theo lifts his head slowly, as if he can sense us watching. His mouth curves into a smile. “The war is not over,” I say aloud, my voice steady despite the storm inside me. It is only beginning. This time, we know what we are fighting. Immortal beings who do not fear death. Creatures who will not stop until wolves are either perfected or erased. And somewhere in Alaska, a clock has started ticking. If Theo’s gateway opens, the world we know may not survive what comes through it.

Katarina’s POV – Safehouse, Then the Mansion “MOVE!” Ghost’s voice cut through the walls like thunder. I jumped, the book in my hands falling to the floor. A second later BOOM—a grenade went off. The boom echoed through the trees, shaking dust from the cabin walls. Katarina’s blood ran cold. That was a grenade. Not close. But not far enough. The sound hit from somewhere distant, low, angry thunder swallowing the sky. “What the hell was that?” I gasped, bolting upright from the couch.

The world would whisper her name like a ghost story — the rogue who carried royal blood, the bridge between the wild and the bound. But Nora knew better. She wasn’t a legend. She was a survivor. And survivors didn’t get endings — they just kept moving. My parents' thoughts were audible to me while they gave their next orders. The wolves advanced toward the pack house as a group, driving the rogues away from our direction. "Willow is awake," Ghost whispered, but I sensed he was hiding something significant from me. Before I could ask what, a group of rogues tackled us to the ground and grabbed Ghost's hind leg. Ghosts wailed in agony as we struggled to fight them off. With some effort, he was able to free his leg and get to his feet again. Four of them stood in the way of reaching Sarah.
