Naraja: “Huh?” As Naraja fell down to the ground he couldn’t grasp what had just happened he could have sworn that he was close, just a smidge at least to make a hit on the Gorilla’s face. Naraja couldn’t breathe nor had enough oxygen in his lungs to produce a hellish scream for the pain he was feeling now. It was just too unbearable to produce one. So he just looked up at the Gorilla and back to the mysterious black human-like figure that was off in the distance. Just standing up on top of the staircase like a king or god or something, just watching him. Looking down on Naraja.

She looks down at the human man she has saved, still clinging to her tightly, and she can feel a sense of connection, of empathy for these land-dwellers who have found themselves in such perilous waters. Joe's body was exhausted from the struggle against the rip current, and his mind was reeling from the surreal experience of being saved by a mermaid. As Nerissa swam with him towards the entrance of the cave, he couldn't help but feel a sense of awe and wonder at the world beneath the surface of the water.

My heart began to race and I shifted back to my human form and dove into the water and swam to the middle of the pool and dived down hoping to be able to find her. Kicking my legs as hard as I could I found the bottom of the pool and began to feel around for her. Just when my lungs began to burn my hand grazed across flesh and I grabbed ahold of her pulling her tight to me and kicked off the bottom to help push us to the surface. Opening my eyes, I could see the sunlight through the water, and I knew we were close to the surface as my lungs begged me for oxygen.

The door opened and I looked up as Othello returned to the table. I pushed the plate away and Othello shook his head, pushing it back. “Eat, Marlene. Don’t let me stop you.” Blinking, I looked at the food, then to Othello. “It doesn’t repulse you? Or freak you out?” Othello laughed and shook his head, “Oh little human hunter, no. It does not. I have studied humans for years, both as a passing curiosity, and as a means to try and better the way we live. Humans have an incredible structure and their ability to keep producing blood, is obviously beneficial to our kind.”

She bats her long eyelashes manipulatively. I stare at her. She stares back, and we both know exactly what she’s doing. “Five minutes.” I blurt, and she doesn’t wait for me to move before pressing play. I shake my head, but there’s no real heat behind it as I move around her and lie down beside her, propping myself slightly on one elbow as the screen comes back to life. Bright blue water fills the room, sunlight cutting through it in shifting patterns as Nemo darts nervously between coral, his small voice carrying through the speakers while Marlin hovers close, cautious and overprotective in a way that feels… familiar.

The feather pillow was replaced by a rolled-up net, straw was scattered on the floor. "Does she really live here?" the exit from the grotto was sheltered by high stones, shielding from the storm, in the water the man noticed two gliding moray eels, whose yellow eyes followed his every movement. With the little mermaid, he tried to be as kind as possible and carefully found out her story, finding out who she was and where she came from.

One of them used his webbed hand to point at Akela and said. "When people see us, they shout at us." The other one struggled to breathe and then started to wheeze. "What am I going to do?! My brother is having an asthma attack! Dickhead! Are you going to die?! Please don't leave me alone in this cruel world! I don't want to be pickled by myself!"
