"The Tide knows we survived the bullet," I said, forcing myself into a seated position, ignoring the protests of the healers. "It knows Aethelgard is a fortress that can fire back into space."
"Let them try again," Elias rumbled, his Alpha command terrifyingly absolute. "The Vanguard is fast enough to catch whatever they throw."
"They aren't going to throw anything else, Sovereign," I said, looking out toward the eastern horizon, toward the ocean. "The Hive-Mind is a computer made of water. It just calculated that it cannot win a war of pressure against a city that controls gravity."
