He shook his head. "She's the moon wolf?!" He pointed at her. "Yes listen, Nathan—" "Are you stupid? I thought you were bringing in strays again, but you brought this dangerous hybrid to our doorstep?!" The veins at his neck bulged, threatening to tear out of his flesh.

I stumbled to a halt, my chest rising and falling rapidly. “They’re… gone…” A shaky breath left me, I actually did it, but there was no time. Kael. Closing my eyes, I summoned my power. It flickered weakly at first, then steadied. Light wrapped around me, and my gown dissolved. In its place a simple nurse’s uniform formed. My glow dimmed, my hair softened, then I looked… human. Perfect, good. Then I headed to the temple where he was being nursed. The temple where all prayers in the land came up to us. But it was quieter than I expected, the atmosphere was heavy and thick with tension.

She gasped, clutching her chest as the light seeped into her. Her wrinkled skin smoothed before their eyes, lines of age erasing as vitality returned to her form. Her tattered, moth-eaten robe shimmered and reformed into flowing garments of sky-blue silk, embroidered with patterns of silver flowers. Her thinning grey hair thickened and lengthened, cascading into golden-blonde locks that gleamed in the glow. When the light faded, she stood before them not as the pitiful, broken old woman they had first seen, but as a beautiful, radiant, middle-aged goddess, brimming with power.
