Not today. I closed my eyes. "Nathan, she possesses the power of the Moon Goddess. She needs to be inside right now!" His eyelids flickered for a second and he glanced at her. "No way!" He shook his head. "She's the moon wolf?!" He pointed at her. "Yes listen, Nathan—" "Are you stupid? I thought you were bringing in strays again, but you brought this dangerous hybrid to our doorstep?!" The veins at his neck bulged, threatening to tear out of his flesh.

I stumbled to a halt, my chest rising and falling rapidly. “They’re… gone…” A shaky breath left me, I actually did it, but there was no time. Kael. Closing my eyes, I summoned my power. It flickered weakly at first, then steadied. Light wrapped around me, and my gown dissolved. In its place a simple nurse’s uniform formed. My glow dimmed, my hair softened, then I looked… human. Perfect, good. Then I headed to the temple where he was being nursed. The temple where all prayers in the land came up to us. But it was quieter than I expected, the atmosphere was heavy and thick with tension.

The energy flooded through her veins like starlight turned liquid. Images flared behind her eyes—wolves made of constellations, a moon bleeding silver, and a woman’s voice whispering, Daughter of the stars… awaken. A rush of power tore free. Light exploded from the desk, scattering the class in a chorus of gasps. The sphere cracked down the middle, and from its core burst a silver wolf—ethereal, luminous, and very much alive.

"She’s the key. The one who can break the curse. The solution we have been looking for. If you have a child with her, that child will carry power like no other. It will make you the strongest Alpha to ever live." He stopped and looked at me hard. "Kian, that girl is your goldmine...our gold mine . You must let go of any distraction. I have big plans for you. But you must do this first." I swallowed hard. My mouth felt dry. "But how are you sure it's even her?" I asked. He paced the room, his fingers slowly rubbing his chin, then he finally spoke, "the seer had already seen it, and all the signs during her transformation were what he had pointed out."

"Then let’s begin." She gestured for Lena to take her place among the circle of runes carved into the earth. The moment Lena sat down, the space around her vibrated as though with some force. She gasped, clutching her chest as the light seeped into her. Her wrinkled skin smoothed before their eyes, lines of age erasing as vitality returned to her form. Her tattered, moth-eaten robe shimmered and reformed into flowing garments of sky-blue silk, embroidered with patterns of silver flowers. Her thinning grey hair thickened and lengthened, cascading into golden-blonde locks that gleamed in the glow. When the light faded, she stood before them not as the pitiful, broken old woman they had first seen, but as a beautiful, radiant, middle-aged goddess, brimming with power.

The wolf lay limp on the ground for a brief moment; its shallow, uneven gasps resounded in the silent atmosphere before it lifted its head and swept its gaze over the eager males. “Awhooo!” With a proud howl, it pushed to its feet, jumped into the crowd, and dashed into the woods. “Our pack’s female will find her mate tonight! Everyone, chase! May the Moon Goddess bless such a beautiful mate to a worthy male!”
