The gate was open. In the center of the courtyard stood a massive mirror. It was ten feet tall, framed in jagged black obsidian. It shouldn't have been there. It looked like it had grown out of the cobblestones. The surface of the glass wasn't reflecting the courtyard; it was a swirling vortex of violet and grey. "The Mirror of Souls," Hala’s voice drifted from the ranks. She pushed her way forward, her staff trembling. "It’s a Coven relic. Selene has left us a parting gift."

The short shotgun went into the holdall with shells to match. The idols fought them the way locks resist being lifted. Gallus dragged seaward even through plastic. Ghast thinned the air to breathlessness. Abnegazar added weight where it shouldn’t exist. Rathos fogged the lids with heat. The golden coral rattled as Gabe’s sleeve brushed it, rolled a few inches, and stopped with a soft metal sigh—a harmless sea-curio in a room that had run out of harmless. Latches bit. Straps cinched. Rain gasped. That had to be her, but she couldn’t believe it. Her hair was prettily braided and swept up from her face in a princess’s coronet. Almost as if its bearings were too much for it to hold. The thin mirror was elongated in shape. Rectangular, with tarnished gold rims that emphasized its edges with a vintage appeal. Nonetheless, it looked akin to any other mirror. At least that's what I've been told. Normal, they say? What a good job I've done then, I thought with some reverence. A large, round golden mirror appeared, levitating in front of her as she sat cross-legged on the exquisite wooden chair she'd taken out of her storage ring. The mirror glowed and a man (whose face was concealed behind an intricately crafted golden mask that had sapphire stones in the middle) could be seen. His shirtless, well-built body had terrifying tattoos of a skull and a three-headed serpent. “How's it going, Glinda? Did you find something valuable?” the man asked in a raspy voice.

Ben narrowed his eyes but relaxed as Dana nudged him shaking her head. “There’s fireworks on the beach today at 10pm.” One of the vendors chatted as Dana was looking through his stall. Dana bought 2 pocket mirrors. It was unique as the mirror casing was a clam shell which opened to show a mirror with its outer border decorated with seashells. “Take 3.” Ben suggested, he knew who the two were for…. but Sarah would feel left out. Dana bit her tongue closing her eye and quickly picked another and mouthed a thank you gesture.

I lifted my sword—charged it with her light—and drove it into the runes. The door exploded inward. Inside was… just darkness. No guards. No monsters. Just silence. We stepped in, weapons drawn.
