He smiled and stopped but was attracted by something else at another stall. It was a little mirror. On the surface, it looked like an exquisite bronze mirror. The surrounding of the mirror was covered with old jade stones and some red string as decoration. The mirror looked like an antique and was quite nice. Nathan put the children down and let them pick what they wanted. Meanwhile, he held onto the mirror and waved Eva over. “What is it?” Eva came over to him curiously. “Have they been buying too many things?” Finn and the bodyguards’ hands were filled with things. Eva felt that the children really did buy too much. Was Nathan starting to feel the pinch?

It was old, the frame tarnished silver worked into a pattern of vines, the glass itself dark, like looking into a pool of standing water rather than a mirror. My reflection didn’t show up in it the way it should have. I turned it over in my hands, then carried it over to where Melissa was sleeping. “Melissa.” I touched her shoulder. “Wake up. I think I found something.” Her eyes opened, blinking blearily, and then sharpened the second they landed on the mirror in my hands. She sat up straighter.

And suddenly, the air between us was too tight and too heavy. I blinked and looked away, turning to face the mirror. The glint of glass pulled me in. The mirror was massive, floor-to-ceiling, framed in brushed gold, it stood like a gate to another lifetime. My reflection stared back: older, harder, but still carrying the same eyes that had once glowed when he touched me.

Fireplace, bookshelves, a half-smoked cigar, leather seating and, on one wall, a large ornate mirror. It’s around eight feet tall and five feet wide. The gilded frame is covered in floral details, but hidden amongst the flowers are small Dragon-like creatures, all with different coloured gems for eyes. It’s beautiful, and as Benny approaches it the little Dragons almost seem to look at him. He waves a hand over the glass and it fogs instantly. He grabs two small stones from a gilt bowl on a stand next to it, and draws two identical runes on them.

One of the girls said, her eyes gleaming proudly. "So, earth does have magic, after all." Another of the girls said, her eyes inhabiting a far away look. Gilga shook her head and rolled her eyes. "Enough of this, what matters here is that we have finished working on lady Germaine's hair." She lifted an object up for Germaine to see herself. It looked like an aluminum tray. Germaine refrained from telling the girls there was an innovation on earth called a mirror and if you stared at it, it was the same thing as staring at yourself, and not this blurred image of herself she was looking at.

Pressed both hands flat against the frame on the left side. Pushed gently. Nothing. I tried the right side. Still nothing. I stepped back. Looked at it more carefully. The mirror sat slightly proud of the wall. Just slightly. Not enough to notice unless you were looking. I pressed the bottom corner. A soft click. The mirror swung outward on a concealed hinge. Behind it was a shallow recess cut into the plaster. Not large. Perhaps thirty centimeters wide. Twenty tall. But deep enough. Inside it sat a metal document box.

The gold motif was prominent in the sink, toilet bowl, and even in the bathtub. When I shifted on the right side, there was a massive mirror before the shower room; I gazed into it and removed my clothes one by one. I stared at myself butt naked in front of the mirror. The corners of my lips curled up in satisfaction; seeing my toned arms and abdomen, my abs started forming in it. My hard work in the gym paid off.
