His eyes met mine, and I swear I saw everything we used to be—the laughter, the kisses, the way he’d look at me like I hung the stars.
“I’m sorry,” he said again. His voice was broken, small. “For everything. I know sorry isn’t enough, but it’s all I’ve got. I love you, Mace. I’ll always love you. And I hope one day… you can find it in your heart to forgive me.”
My chest burned as I blinked back tears. “Goodbye, Damien,” I whispered.
He nodded once, his jaw tight, and walked out.
