Jake says in a gruff growly voice, holding keys in the air and wiggling them at Shane. "Yeah, thanks for tonight mate." Shane waves a hand in the air sleepily as they leave. "Bill, where's the other controller?" "I got it." Luke calls, his head inside the cupboard on the corner. "I'm going to go to bed." I press myself against Billy and kiss him. "Stay down and enjoy boy time with your friends." "It's ok, they'll be fine." Even though I know he hasn't spent much time doing simple things like playing games with his friends recently, he looks like he's ready to follow me up to bed and I love him even more for it.

I can rip your head off, too,” she winked. “Shit! I believe you!” Brandon replied rubbing his arm. “Holy, hell. Call her off, bro!” “Cadence, play nice,” Aaron cautioned, shaking his head.

Aurora asked as the team began to funnel out. “I like to think not,” Elliott answered. Brandon stood, looked at his dad, and started walking toward the door. I heard Elliott add, “Although I swear I am a little taller.” “And a little more obnoxious,” Cadence yelled after him. Brandon turned to look at her, and I could tell by her smile that she was just kidding, but I still wanted to smack her. “I’m not sure that’s possible,” Elliott admitted. “I will tell you this though,” he said, pausing just before the exit, Brandon stopping just in front of him. “when I meet this Gibbon guy, he’s gonna wish I’d never come back from the dead.”

He’s probably known me too long to get turned on by my little games. The phone rings again, interrupting my thoughts. I answer it quickly. “Hey, G.” “Brandi, want to meet me for drinks tonight?” “Me, as in you alone?” She sounds skittish; she always sounds like that when she’s plotting something. “Uh, Carlos will be there.” “And…?” “Okay, and one of his friends, B. He’s really sweet.” “I’m sure he’s cane sugar itself, but I’m not interested.” “Come on, B, I’m not planning your wedding. It’s just one drink.”

Brandon, the oldest of the evil triplet who had made it his mission to terrorize me shunned her by waving his hand in her face, telling her to shut up. “How was our little present, freako?” he asked, smiling. “The last one was better, Brandon. This is way below your regular prank standard. Shouldn’t you have done better?” I asked him. The smile slipped away from his face and was soon replaced by a frown. “You weirdo!” Breston spat. “You think you’re so smart, right? Let’s see if you’ll survive the next one,”

A familiar voice came from the back of the crowd. A few seconds later, Brandon stepped out from the crowd. He looked lazy, as if he had not completely sobered up from his drunken stupor. "Stop. You guys are so noisy." He yawned and then spoke vaguely. Abby stopped, but she signaled with her eyes for the other two to continue tearing at my clothes. "Brandon, you just woke up from a nap and you probably do not know that the dummy stole my gold coins. I am searching her." Abby explained with a flattering smile toward Brandon.

Brandon pulled her into a fierce hug, his own apologies a warm murmur against her hair. As they pulled apart, Britney's brow furrowed in confusion. "Not that I don't appreciate the GQ look, but why are you dressed like that? It's barely dawn." A boyish grin lit up Brandon's face, transforming him from adult heir to excited kid in an instant. "The Eliot Bassett show, remember? I couldn't sleep, I'm so excited." Britney blinked, then burst into laughter. "Brandon, sweetheart... the show's not until four this afternoon."

She looked at him quietly. About a moment later, Brandon began to speak, his voice exuding a lonely, relatable tone. “This afternoon, I argued with my mother. After that, I went to Peter’s house for a bit and then left. Because I was bored, I went to the bar to drink. In the middle of the road, I saw those guys bullying a server, so I stopped them.” Sensing Anna’s mocking gaze, Brandon cleared his throat. “I’m not a bad person either. Why are you looking at me like that?!”

We were wrapping up the first segment, about Kujo. They showed Ricky asking, “And you think he’ll do what you asked?” I smiled to reply, “He said he would and he’s always kept his promises. Else, Brandon would’ve gotten a lot more than a burning scratch back in October.” Back to the Quabbin, Brandon came walking down the long trail in no hurry, looking straight into the camera.
