Chapter sixteen: A new dawn Late summer sunshine gilded the facade of Montrose Hall as Isabelle Montrose stepped into the grand gallery annex, her breath catching at the sight before her. Rows of mahogany easels displayed her charcoal and watercolor drawings—renderings of flickering embers, twisting serpents, interlaced keys, and the silver blue flame she and Alexander had kindled in Saint Brigid’s crypt. Each piece was accompanied by a brief inscription in flowing Latin and English, celebrating the Ember Circle’s rebirth in truth.

A ripple of darkness seeped from the shattered entrance. Not a creature. Not a person. A void. It crawled across the snow like living shadow, stretching, reaching, twisting into form. As I ran, I noticed the door was fading. It's like water that starts to ripple and the image starts to distort. The door, gray and metallic, started to crystalline. And as odd as it sounds, glinting stars and city lights started to materialize behind it.

She had no idea what mind-set Bruce was in and she had no desire to wrestle with a rogue lycanthrope if she could avoid it. Bruce surged out of the root cellar and inspected his rescuers. " I took out the book at one and it levitated itself and its pages flipped at such speed to an unknown page. The next act raised tension, my palm getting colder and sweaty. The pages slowly began to fill its empty sheets, drawings and writings, a few in English and the rest in sigils and signs. The first drawing I saw, was a three headed beast, it looked like a hound, or a dog. Drawn as a black and white art, shades of the body noticeably seen, bringing out details, the saliva dripping from its flappy mouth. I looked underneath the drawing and I saw a tag. The creature's body was slime-like, yet it seemed to have short limbs and a small mouth that produces a harsh hissing sound when it opens. "Don't call them junk," the elderly professor replied. Struggling to stand up from sitting on his chair, he gently placed the book he's reading on his desk, which was also filled with empty laboratory flasks, notebooks and pens. There was a stain of spilled ink covering the upper corner of his disorganized table. His hair and beard are almost white, with visible streaks of gray, and along with his crumpled and stained lab coat, they all seemed to have been unattended for a long while now.
