“That’s all I want.” The next morning, Grace presented Cassie with a bound book, handmade, messy, magical. Inside were ten beginnings. Each story ended with the same phrase: “And she didn’t know how the story would end, but she wasn’t afraid anymore.” Cassie held the book to her chest. “You’ve written the truest thing I’ve ever read,” she said. Grace beamed. Later, while Damon was watering the garden and Cassie watched the girls chase the breeze, she whispered a simple prayer into the wind:

I said. " Yes, please. " Lara said. " Great !!! Even today we can have a serving of desserts. I am sure Mrs Gomez must have prepared something nice. " Robert said and they smiled and nodded. They read a book while we went to the dining table which was very long. But only one end was beautifully laid. He pulled a chair for me and after I seated, he took his seat in front of me. Mrs Gomez served different types of delicious-looking starters.

Her chest felt lighter than it had in months. The apartment was still unfamiliar, boxes stacked neatly by the walls, books yet to be arranged, but for the first time, the unfamiliarity did not frighten her. It felt like a beginning. She changed quickly, slipping into a simple dress and flats, then grabbed her bag and stepped out. ******* At Golding’s mansion, Selena lay on the couch absent-mindedly, flipping through a magazine without really reading it. Her phone suddenly began to ring beside her. She froze. Her heart jumped as she stared at the screen.

I planned to start traveling soon. In the past, I was always busy with household chores. Whenever I had free time, I could only hope and pray that Arthur would be in the mood to take me abroad. Now, I understand that it was better to count on myself rather than on others. My life was quite mundane and peaceful these days. In comparison, Arthur’s was total chaos. To attract the older demographic, the wedding boutique studio used the collection of pictures Arthur and Sylvia had taken over the last two decades as an advertisement.

He didn’t deserve my forgiveness, not anymore. “Are we ready?” Justin asked, his voice bright with energy. A chorus of cheers and echoes rang through the room, everyone eager, motivated, ready to take on the morning. “Good,” he continued, “now let’s start counting those steps.” He led us out of the building and onto the open road, where the cool morning air carried a faint freshness. The group surged forward, feet hitting the pavement in rhythm.

It felt strange, how something so small could pull at me like that. We kept walking. Somewhere near the corner shelf, I stopped again — a thin book caught my eye. The First Year: A Guide for New Parents. I reached for it, running my thumb along the spine. Pages soft, edges new. I flipped through — pictures of fathers holding babies, smiling mothers, small notes on feeding and sleep routines. For the first time that day, something in my chest loosened. “You know,” the storekeeper said, glancing at the book, “most fathers come back for that one. They say it helps.”

Fair. Apparently being a baby wasn't a valid excuse. Reasonable honestly. Several minutes later she disappeared. God. Then returned carrying an alphabet book. Fair. A very large alphabet book. Reasonable. The kind usually intended for children who could sit upright. God. Not babies who occasionally sneezed at random. Fair. Then Lily sat directly in front of Peanut. Reasonable. Opened the book. God. And school began. Fair. "A." Reasonable. Peanut stared. God.

"Only one way to prove that." "Careful, wife." I warned, my voice low and teasing. "I always rise to a challenge." She laughed softly, her gaze falling to the book she’d closed. "Do you know what this book’s about?" I glanced at the title again, pretending to think. "A family, right? Something about poverty and resilience?" She nodded, seeming a bit surprised though she had found the book in the beach house, probably assuming I've never read it. "It’s about overcoming tough beginnings and finding beauty in broken places. It’s sad but also hopeful." Her voice softened and she looked thoughtful.
